My first pet, Jean Bernick
I had to use the internet for this, as the only picture that I have was not good enough, but my first pet was a Scottie named Dutchess. Most of what I remember is stories about her she had puppies 3 days before I was born. Another story is that when I was about 1 1\2 yrs old, I was in the back of our house with my Mom on a winter day with heavy snow on the ground. Mom went inside to get something thinking, that I would be ok. When she came out, I was nowhere to be seen. I had wandered away on the heavy crust on the snow. Duchess kept running back and forth between me and Mom until my Mom found me. This sketch is not my Duchess, but I have always loved Scotties since.

Pets, Ann Hyde
As a kid I had a guinea pig - well, for a while.
That was until the day I went out to the shed to see it,
and discovered, it was in fact a she, and she had produce babies!

Pets, Ann Hyde
One of my earliest pets, was a budgie. A blue one, he could talk and would say "Pop gone to work" - "Ann gone to school". Except sometimes he would muddle it up and say "Pop gone to school" - "Ann gone to work" !!!!

Pets / Animals, Sirkka Jalava Dog Trixie
I would take part in this periods theme with a couple of pictures. I have two cats but I noticed, that I have not painted them at all, yes done a drawing in pastel. But once I had a dog by me when the owners was travelling. I did some some aquarelles of this dog.

Animals/Pets, Carriage Horse by Joan Tavolott
Yesterday I went out with the NYC Urban Sketchers. Our theme for the day was sketching things that are or may be disappearing from NYC. There have been heated arguments in the city about the carriage horses in Central Park. I can understand the arguments for and against them remaining, and the decision hasn't yet been made. Until then, they are fun to sketch and each of the horses (and their drivers) is unique.

Pets/Animals, Chihuahua Dog, Penny Stewart
Since I am always posting tiny paintings, I thought I would show you one of my larger ones, acrylic 12x16, which seems huge to me. LOL. I love Chihuahuas and this one was done in a class I taught at Michael's for Pet Portrait Painting awhile back. Who could resist that face?
There are many more of my animal paintings on my Facebook Page if you are interested. Thanks.

Pets/Animals, In the Style of Picasso by Donna Bickley
A couple more "in the style of"
Blue Nude Cat with Mice - In the style of Pablo Picasso, a whimsical parody of his masterpiece, Blue Nude, My version is catified, featuring my iconic cat as the nude with the ever-present observer mice.
AND
Warning - this is a bit edgy - I consider it a cautionary tale to keep one's cats indoor (my cat could catch a bird in midair - I know cause I play "Whirly-Bird" with her!)
Cat Catching a Bird - In the style of Picasso's painting, 1939
