Choosing the reference photo.

My daughter took a photo of our garden and the bunny rabbit "scare crow" we have to ward off birds, etc. Then she "colored" it somehow in a program. I have no idea how she did that. But it is very Unusual and it amazed me. I cannot decide if I want to paint the original or the super colorful version. What do you think?

I only used black watercolor paint washes and the white is the paper. This was done for a study of values in only black and white for a DPW challenge. It was painted from a reference photo of my own family. 9x12 on 140# hot press paper. Comes with a white mat and backing board to fit into an 11x14 frame. For Sale. Gina is an artist, so I never presume to give her any of my artwork, LOL.

Summer Vacation, Camping Lantern

This is very like the old rusty Coleman light we had when we took the kids camping many years ago. I never really liked it when we were fighting mosquitos, bees, wind, sand, rain, collapsing tents and crying kids, but when I look back, I have some fond memories. Painting is 6x6 on heavy paper, done in acrylic, using heavy gessoed base, for lots of texture.

I don't do vacations any more, because I am retired in sunny Southern California, and every day is a holiday! But back in the day, I remember our camping trailer, the coleman cooler, and working harder than I ever would have at home to make meals, keep the kiddies clean and not loose them in the woods or drown them in the lake. Still, we called it fun and "getting away." I was always gladder to get back home to my own bed and frig! Watercolor, 9x12 sold.

This is one of my favorite ACEOs, "Marina at Sunrise" which I made two years ago, and it still has not sold. I don't know why, because I love it.  It is done with WC, gouache and pen, so it is mixed media, and kind of impressionistic, I think. I find it amusing and amazing that the ones I like do not sell well, and the ones I thought were destined for the trash do sell. Go figure! Still on Ebay

Sunrise? Sunset? 

I can  never figure out if it is a SunRISE or a SunSET . . this is a sort of abstract or expressionistic (I am not sure which) ACEO painted on a piece of Masonite, and has a magnet so you can put it on your frig. I have lots of Frig Art. In my Ebay Store.

"Santa Loves Me" was painted from a free reference photo on Paint My Photo website, by Karswee, photographer. It is done with watercolor and a little white gouache. Comes with mat to fit a 5x7 frame.

Things about Me, Multiple Personalities of Penny Lee StewArt

I find my art often affects my life, and vice versa.

A few years ago, I spent several months painting pigs for a rescue site, and their sad stories affected me so much that I became a vegan. 

I used to be a professional puppeteer, and even changed my name to Penny Puppet for many years. I did ventriloquism, Hand Puppets and Marionettes.

I painted Cat Rocks and sold them at my craft store, The Crafty Lady Boutique, but they were too heavy to ship, although the craftylady.com still exists!

I tried bellydancing 20 years ago, and painted a series of costumed dancers ACEO size. My stage name was "The Pink Gypsy" and I even made a website, pinkgypsy.com

I painted this portrait of my Chihuahua "Lily" and then spent several years doing pet portraits in acrylics and watercolors.

About Me:  Currently I am crocheting more than painting.

I have always lived by the slogan, if one is good, then two is better, etc. I am now hoarding yarn, so if anyone has any they wish to get rid of, I will send you my address. Right now I am trying to sell my crochet wearable art on Etsy and hippyknits.com but so far no sales.  If it doesn't start selling by Christmas, well, all of my friends and relatives will be getting handmade one of a kind crochet gifts this season.

I even made a hippie doll, which is called an Amigurumi, and that was fun! 

I may make more of these!

Plus many scarves, slippers, hoodies, shawls, afghans, and 2 cat beds for my son's animals. Now that I write about it, it does seem a bit obsessive.  LOL.

Tropical Sunset (or Sunrise?) I can never tell which it is.  These palm trees were a favorite of my students in the Acrylic Painting classes I taught at Michael's a few years ago. It was easy to paint and always looked good, no matter the skill of the painter.
