Animals by Lisa Richards

Sorry, I've been rather absent here! I've been spending my drawing time on ATC's, but since the swap theme I'm doing is an animal theme, I'm posting my last set of cards. The theme is Animals of the Alphabet-Letter B.

I hope it's okay to post four photos. Since I post so seldom...

Bongo

 Badger

Barracuda

Binturong (Asian Bearcat?)
I love drawing animals, so I'm excited to have a chance to work my way through the alphabet with animal drawings!

Animals by Lisa Richards

This is what happened at my house last night. (For the full story you can visit my blog. I'm getting tired of telling it!) lol!

And, so, my illustrated calendar continues! Have a great day!

Animals by Lisa Richards

I drew this simple little robin yesterday after watching robins and sparrows bathing in a mud puddle outside my granddaugthers' house. It's part of an illustrated calendar I'm making this month.

A one inch square box to fill in for each day of the month, plus lots of extra boxes begging to be filled with tiny drawings. I got the idea from the Alarm Cat blog.

Lynn, I absolutely LOVE the Paint My Photo website! So many beautiful photos we can use without worrying about copyright! Thanks for the link!

I hope an ATC is okay. I just did this for an ATC swap with the theme May Bizarre Holidays.

Art Supplies by Lisa Richards

I just love drawing/painting art supplies! This is just a quick little wonky sketch I did before running off to work. Maybe I'll do something with color later, though there isn't much color to do. The brushes have clear acrylic handles and the water container is white...so!

I just wanted to make something for this two week period. Hopefully, I will draw more. This one was so quick, maybe I should do this more often. I love this "pen-without-pencil-first" type of sketching!
I know, the perspective is very off. I like to call it "naïve", lol! A fun unselfconscious way to draw!

Time Away from Home by Lisa Richards

I haven't posted for a while. I guess I'm busy with ATC's, reading and babysitting grandbabies! I don't get away from home very often in the sense of a vacation to exotic places. This is a drawing of a place in the Old City of Jerusalem; a place I'd love to visit. I did this a couple of years ago, but decided to post it since I don't seem to be getting anything new drawn! Lynn, you mentioned living on a kibbutz. That's something else on my bucket list! Maybe someday when the grandkids get bigger I can sneak away for a vacation to Israel!

Kitchen by Lisa Richards

I can't keep up with the flood of wonderful art being posted! I may not get a chance to comment on everything, but I'm enjoying it all!

This is from a photo I took of my morning oatmeal a few days ago. I thought I'd better draw it quickly before we go on to the next theme! The strawberries were HUGE though I may have exaggerated them a little. :) The tablecloth is a figment of my imagination and a good excuse to splash watercolors around.

My bowl looks more like a plate, but, oh well! Looking forward to more kitchen goodies!

Kitchen by Lisa Richards

I got a sudden hankering to actually draw and paint in one of my little Moleskines after seeing others doing the same. I bought a 3 pack of the cheapest Moleskines a while back, but I've only used one of them for writing art notes in. It's about time I used them for their original purpose! So here is a sketch of a little teapot and some salt and pepper shakers.

I enjoyed this little experience very much though the pen sketching works better on this paper than watercolors. I realize that Moleskine does make sketchbooks with watercolor paper, but I went for the cheapest ones I could find. Still it was fun to do this and I may do more line drawings in them.

By the way, this little teapot has been broken and glued back together, so it's just for decoration. It would be fun to have one to actually make tea in!

Kitchen-Lisa Richards

It's only March 4 and I already feel like I'm falling behind! lol! So many posts to catch up on when I get home from work! But it's a nice problem. ;) Here's a watercolor I did a few minutes ago. My lines and perspective got more and more wonky as I went along, but I had so much fun quickly sketching in all of the objects. It's HARD to stand up and hold your sketchbook in one hand while sketching with the other!

The cat wearing an apron above the stove is a spoonrest and the objects on either side of it are little potholders that look like a little child's bloomers. They're very old and I don't remember where I found them. The jars to the right of the stove contain dried beans which I've had for years because they are the only beans I've grown and dried from my own garden! To the left of the stove is an antique canister that I keep my utensils in. The four objects on the back of the stove are salt and pepper shakers. So are the cows on the windowsill next to Brown Betty.

This theme has taught me to see ordinary objects in a new way. All of you have inspired me to see beauty in these everyday items. I'm learning to loosen up and enjoy art instead of trying to make a "photocopy" of what I'm drawing. :)

This was done on 80# sketch paper
with gouache paints and
a Sharpie Ultra Fine line pen.

Kitchen by Lisa Richards

Well, since I suggested this theme I guess I'd better make my contribution! I've been trying to eat healthier lately, so I thought I'd draw the contents of my fridge. You might notice a pink blob in the upper right...Spam. Whoops! I crave it now and then. Maybe I just need to purchase a salt block to lick! :)

I'm enjoying this inside view of everyone's kitchens!

Done with a good old Sharpie Ultra Fine Point Permanent Marker
and some Talen Gouache paints. This marker isn't fine enough for ATC's,
but for this larger format I love them!

Close to Home-Lisa Richards

I've always wanted to draw a couch! So, I drew my couch and then had fun slopping some watercolor on it.  There's no way I could replicate the pattern of the fabric, so I just improvised. :)

I drew this with a Prismacolor Premier pen (without pencil). I love drawing directly with pen, flaws and all! Painted it with gouache on 80# sketchpad paper. Fun!

Close to Home-Lisa Richards

I've noticed several have posted art that they did in the past. I hope it's okay to do that because I'm having quite a hard time coming up with anything new at the moment. This is a sketch I did a while back and I kind of liked how it turned out. Just a group of objects on my desk.

Hopefully I'll be inspired to draw something new soon! I'm enjoying looking at everyone else's art!

Close to Home-Lisa Richards

I'm afraid my first attempt for this blog isn't very inspired. I always admire folks who can draw the contents of their medicine cabinet and make it interesting a la Danny Gregory. I'll have to practice!

I was digging through multiple boxes of old, musty photographs today, trying to cull them down to a manageable number, when I came across a photo of a vase of flowers I had taken probably 15 years ago. I will try to do better next time. I just wanted to get my feet wet and break through my painter's block! :)

I'm enjoying looking at everyone's efforts here!
