Kitchen Cups and Bowls

Kitchen Cups and Bowls - 8x8 Acrylic by Penny StewArt
You could win this painting on my blog just for telling me why you want it.  I decided I might as well give away some of my paintings.  At least this way they will go to a good home.  I was trying to paint it to look like oils.  Loosening up and doing strokes and shapes instead of getting lost in the details.

One Final Kitchen Drawing Lynn Cohen

I've been missing drawing people. Since with the exception of the one "Husband in the Kitchen" and one other TJ's drawing I've done since we've been drawing in the Kitchen, I felt compelled to eat lunch at Tacos Jalisco again this week so I could draw people. "The Couple", the STARS of my book, were there. And so I sat where I could see them and draw them easily. I wonder how many times I have drawn them, and how many times I have caught him with his arm around her? The other guy was sitting directly in front of me. He filled up his space there nicely for me too. You can see he is facing into the KITCHEN at the restaurant. The refrigerated case of cold drinks is in front of the couple. It was a good lunch. Senior Carlos made me my lunch. I waved to him in thanks through that opening into his kitchen.

Kitchen - ann hyde

Here's a painting I did for our daughter's kitchen. I had specific instructions on colour, but subject was up to me, so I chose an ice cream cone ... I did get a bit carried away though! lol

Kitchen "Cleaners" Lynn Cohen

I started this "Kitchen" theme off by cleaning my kitchen in readiness for drawing it. Now I am ending the two weeks 'in the kitchen' with a recipe I found on line in Sonnet's Kitchen for organic cleaners for the household. I filled a recycled artichoke hearts jar (washed out of course) with peels from oranges and grapefruits. I filled the jar with water after adding some baking soda and Dr. Brommer's Magic Soap. I filled a spray bottle with three cups of hot water, one tablespoon of baking soda and 2 teaspoons of Dr. Brommer's soap for quick cleaning my kitchen sink and counter tops. They sparkle from their cleaning and I trust I have not breathed in or been touched by any harsh chemicals. Thanks to Sonnet for her recipe and tips. Check out her website for lots of fun food recipes too.

Kitchen by Maria Medeiros

Hello Everyone! I'm so excited to be here! I've been looking at all your wonderful artwork and you inspire me so much!
Today I made a few goodies from my kitchen.
A lemon and mini croissants!

Still Life Lemon

This was such a challenge for me.
I need to work with more glass and liquid.

Still life Broccoli

I wasn't going to post this because its all wrong to me.
The proportions and everything about it was just not working for me... Its one of those quick
sketches. I figured I am too hard on my self and
should relax. This would be a great challenge for me.
To overcome being too critical of my self and
just have fun!

Thank you everyone! Have a lovely weekend!

"Dessert" Kitchen Lynn Cohen

Today and Tomorrow are the last 2 days for our "Kitchen" theme.
And lest you think I am deprived eating vegan I want you to know that according to Dr. Andrew Weil and others in his field, that dark chocolate that is at least 75% cacao and low in sugar  is deemed "heart healthy"
if taken in moderate amounts!
So I buy a large cacao bar like this one (86% or higher as I love bitter chocolate)
and keep it in the refrigerator and break off a small square every few days or so.
I MUST remember NOT to eat it too close to bedtime, however, or it will keep me awake!
This particular treat was made right here in San Francisco, CA.
It is my decadent dessert treat!

Bon Appetite!

Kitchen, Lunch by Melisa McCurley

Yesterday, I was here alone and was painting so I didn't take time to stop and cook for lunch (I cook a lot because I have to but hate it) so I fixed myself what I call a picnic food. Since I can't eat sandwiches for picnics, I take things like this. This is a bell pepper stuffed with homemade pimiento cheese, a handful of raw fresh sugar snap peas, and a few cherry tomatoes. I snapped a quick pic with my tablet, snarfed it down, and went back to my oil painting. Sketched it later. :) Oh, and I treated myself by serving it on one of my favorite lunch plates, which I don't use much because DH and DS are both prone to breaking them.

"Peanut Butter & Rice Cake and Soup for Lunch" Kitchen Lynn Cohen

I came home for lunch again today. I quickly made a peanut butter on rice cake using organic, Full Circle, chunky peanut butter and a Gluten Free, organic whole grain brown rice rice cake. Non GMO verified. LOL
Yes, all this is important to me.

I opened a can of Amy's organic vegetable and lentil soup. I started drawing while the soup was heating on the stove. (In the red pot I drew last)  I was eating the peanut butter and rice cake and had to make myself stop until I got it drawn so I could see the colors for the paint. I painted it and then finished eating it; then I painted the bowl of soup. The bowl is a hand thrown clay bowl I got from a classmate many years ago. I love it. It's thick and holds the heat well. The soup is good too. Now it's in my tummy as well.
I'm ready to return to work, fortified; and hope it lasts as my final is tonight at my ASL (American Sign Language) class! ;-) I plan on acing it!

Kitchen "Soup Time" Lynn Cohen

At noon today I was home for lunch so I drew my heavy red pot (with Jez in mind) and green soup bowl while I used the Kitchen Aid can-opener I drew yesterday (see below) to open a can of Organic Lentil soup for lunch. Pot is on the stove, bowl waiting patiently on the tile next to it. Now I am eating the soup while writing this to you! ;-)

My morning client cancelled so I was home all morning; therefore I drew & posted thrice! LOL
I also swept the floors. Got lots done. ;-)

Kitchen "iPad" Lynn Cohen

Thanks to being inspired by Gloria, I drew this view of my kitchen on 'paper 53' app on my iPad using my stylus. The black blob is our toaster next to our toaster oven. Then stove and herbs. Notice wood grains! Dishes drying in the dish drainer. Towel thrown over oven door handle ever so carelessly. Fun to do! Thanks Gloria!

Kitchen "My Fridge Door" Lynn Cohen

If you click on the photo you'll see it on a black background which shows it off better!

I sat and drew everything that is on our refrigerator door. It's family photos and a lot of kids art (grand kids and cousin's kids art) all dear to us. And love notes from grand kids too. One magnet with our cats care persons phone number. I guess you can tell where our hearts are. A nice way to start my day filled with love!

Kitchen Lynn Cohen

I came home for lunch and wondered what I could draw while eating it. Some of you seemed amazed that I can draw and eat simultaneously. Perhaps you don't know that for two whole years I ate and drew over lunch at a spot called Tacos Jalisco. I still do sometimes. So I am an expert of sorts of drawing while eating. I produced a book about it called One Fish Taco, Half an Order of Guacamole A Year of Drawing Over Lunch at Tacos Jalisco. I wrote the book about my courageous endeavor of drawing in public, something I had never done up until that time. I starting doing this outdoors (en plein air), but winter set in and I went indoors to the Mexican restaurant down the street from my office. There I met the owners and staff and was made to feel at home drawing there. Info on the book is on my other blog.
The book is published by Blurb Books.

So today, at home, indoors, I went to my kitchen drawer and pulled out three utensils. A Kitchen Aid can opener, a Julienne slicer, and a common potato peeler. I drew them with the following tools:

I couldn't think what that middle implement was called when I was drawing, nor could Dev.  Then in bed I suddenly thought of it, and said loudly "FISH SLICE" and he said "Fish Slice".  End of conversation.  After over 56 years we don't need to make lengthy explanations!

I had intended to draw just the spoons and fish slice, but when the sun suddenly shone in brightly the shadows gave such vitality to the image.

Kitchen, scrubbers by Melisa McCurley

I couldn't get a decent picture of this. The scanner did something garish to it and the camera washed it out (this paper isn't white) but the camera was the better of the two. I didn't do a very good job depicting my pretty black and brown granite countertops. They don't really look like mud. The backsplash behind should be granite also, but I didn't want to make more mud. It looks like I need to use the scrubby to clean it up! :)

"Last Nights Dinner" Kitchen Lynn Cohen

Last nights dinner. I actually drew and painted and ate this all at the same time. Most of the food is eaten. Crazy I know, but I guess I am obsessed. Sorry the scanner is blurry on the left side. Hopefully it will cover up some of the write-os. ;-) Like typos.

The bowl is from several I picked up at a garage sale years ago. I still like them.

Kitchen, Yarn Winder by Melisa McCurley

This might not seem like a kitchen item but my kitchen counter is the only place I can clamp this yarn winder, so it is frequently found clamped to the bar area along with my swift. I wound this ball of yarn and then sketched the winder. I enjoy knitting and crocheting and love pretty yarn.  Especially hand-dyed yarn.

Kitchen "A Bowl of Fruit X 3" Lynn Cohen

It is so interesting how the inner critic works. I thought to draw this bowl of fruit, two oranges and a mango, on my kitchen counter JUST using watercolors, no drawing first. When I got done I thought, "I sure am NOT good at this!"

Then after I scanned it I "improved it" in Picasa making the scanned picture "brighter" and I liked it a little bit more.

But it still wasn't ME yet. So I decided to do what I think I do best and I added INK.

What I find most interesting is that after theses several "adjustments" to my original painting, I decided that the first one wasn't that bad after all. LOL

And after looking at all three, I see that each one has a personality of it's own, it's own style, and they are all three quite acceptable to me.

So much for "inner critic". Yes, the drawing is quite primitive. Yes it is simple/simplistic. No, it's not GREAT ART. But it's okay art. And worth sharing! At least I think so. I'm so happy I can squelch my inner critic so well nowadays!

Kitchen "Blender" Lynn Cohen

Meet my best MORNING friend, my Ninja Professional! It greets me each morning welcoming me to make my morning smoothie using it's "individual cup". The top comes off and I put on the 16 oz. cup and blade filled with cut up fruits and nuts & non dairy coconut milk (you've seen it on an earlier post of mine) ... But this is the Big Mama. It also has a third bowl attachment with blades that can be used for kneading dough or processing food. I've used it for the latter not the former. No, I do not work for the company, but I would tout this product anytime, as it works so well for me. Granted my OLD blender that was a $20 Hamilton Beach did okay for a smoothie, I like the smaller individual cup with it's own blade and not having to use the whole big blender top for a smoothie, as it's quicker and easier to clean. And the big gal is good for sauces and other foods in greater quantity. And it's a third the price of Vitamix, the monster my DIL tried to convince me to buy!

A LITTLE PEPPER PROBLEM

Hi everyone, I'm Jez, I live in England, and this is my first post on PPP&P.  I love drawing, painting and using pens and coloured pencils, so this is just the blog for me.  I've been scrolling back through previous posts and am so impressed with everything I have seen, and found that I already know some of you.  Thank you Lynn for the opportunity to join and meet more artists.

Kitchen "cupboards" Lynn Cohen

I opened my kitchen cupboards (some of them) today, which is risky business. As you can see they are not the neatest cupboards in the world. But they are MY cupboards. I'll point out a few things ...
Top shelf hold things I use rarely, like the Halloween pumpkin decoration, and the Chanukah candles, an old oil lamp, and leaf bags, an old ceramic pot I don't use, but it too nice to get rid of.

Next shelf down is lots of notebooks, important papers, one old Joy of Cooking cookbook, a Thanksgiving turkey decoration and Shabbat candles.

Followed by a row of Vegan cookbooks!!! Mostly new, as I've only been eating vegan not quite one year this and next month! A bag of Steel Oats, Wild Rice, lentils ....

Next shelf is canned goods: coconut milk, soups, beans, onions, rice, artichoke hearts, a candle in a candle holder, dried seaweed I bought but haven't opened or eaten. It seemed a good idea at the time.

Second to bottom shelf holds a slicer, my Spiralizer, the dehydrator my kids gave me for Mother's Day last year and I used a lot last summer, a big can of coconut oil.

And the bottom shelf is a hodgepodge of table linens, paper plates and paper napkins. A mess really.

See how Lynn lives! ;-)
