"Selfies", Lynn Cohen "#2 of Projected 15 for January)
I do hope I can encourage others to join me in this challenge for our current theme of "Selfies".
As you can see I do not aim to draw a picture that looks like a photograph of myself.
Today I dug into my art bag and decided to mainly use MARKERS. I only used pen for my eyelashes. I will try mixing up my art supplies for each of these.
I drew this in the car on our way home from Oregon this morning.
Well actually, from Yreka. We'd gotten that far on our return trip last night.
I looked in the little mirror behind my visor and drew myself.
Would anyone recognize it as me?
Probably not, But it was fun!
And that is what these challenges are all about for me.
Come on, give it a try!!!

Selfie by Joan Tavolott
I did this from life instead of a photo. I tried hard not to look as serious and I usually do when I do myself from life. I don't know if that quite worked. I used watercolors and watercolor pencils.

Selfie, Penny the Painter, Penny Lee StewArt
This large 16 x 20 framed "Self Portrait" was done looking into a mirror. I painted it several years ago during an art class, and people said it looked like me, but older. Well, I think my face has caught up to the age in the portrait by now! I painted an easel in the background because I like portraits with artifacts that tell a story. The blue shirt has paint on it because I wipe my brushes on my shoulder, always have. LOL. In the photo below the painting, I am wearing the same shirt. I added the turtleneck to cover up my wrinkles.

Selfies, "Self Assured", Lynn Cohen
I'm feeling better and better about myself as an artist.
I just noticed how my eyes match the chair here! I like that too.
I'll let the page speak for itself!
Selfies are such fun.

Selfie, by Elaine (jaguarish)
I had a quick go at the selfie today -- while minding kids in the park -- also trying to use my new ArtGridCard. I didn't measure everything carefully but used the grid lines to help me position some of the major shapes. Result: a bit creepy... (as someone else said!) I'm afraid I probably would have done better without a grid in this case, but I was keen to try the grid card out! I'll have to try again when I can concentrate better and try harder. Do feel free to use my photo if you want to have a try with my face.

The hardest thing about doing a selfie is the critiquing I do about me, while I am drawing me...ugh.
I have so few pictures of me but this was taken for my design team photos that I have to have on my bio's.

Selfie by Joan Tavolott
I sketched this in watercolors from one of the photos I uploaded. I was on the beach with friends when the photo was taken.
Selfies, Sketch of Lynn Take2, Ann Hyde
Okay, so I have had another go ....practice, practice and practice is the saying isn't it...oh boy do I need to practice. I approached this one differently from the previous and used pencil instead of straight in with pen. I felt more comfortable with pencil and started with the eyes this time...
then a little more detail....
then I worked from the eyes, measuring from the previous lines as I went...
then a little more detail....
I was going to leave it as a pencil sketch,
but couldn't resist adding a little colour....
Could this be where friendships are made or broken...
hope you are still taking to me Lynn :-)

Thanks for the ok to use your photo Lynn, but I did warn you I'm no good at portraits, lol !!!!
I did my best though and will keep practicing ...

Don't worry if you think your selfies don't look like you think you look. My bet is you will capture something of your essence and/or soul. I think this is pretty good of my glasses and shirt. LOL I took a picture of myself on my iPad and drew myself from it. I have also drawn myself looking in the mirror. Maybe I'll do that next for this theme!
Here's another photo of me if you want to use it for drawing a portrait (hopefully, AFTER you draw at least one SELFIE) (optional) Add your own photo to your Selfie post so others can draw you if you like. (optional)

Selfies, Penny in a pink hat, Expressionistic Style, Penny StewArt
About a month ago Paintmyphoto.ning.com had a challenge to paint yourself in an expressionistic style, which is not realistic, so it was a stretch for me. The photo of me in the pink hat was taken at a craft sale about 7 years ago. I use it for my avatar on several sites, so it is out there. You are welcome to paint it if you like.
It is Watercolor, Pen and Ink and Gouache, 5x7 on heavy paper.

The most difficult thing is to draw me self I feel. And now after Lynn`s and Ann`s selfies it is even more difficult, after their fine portraits. But just therefor this challenge is so intreresting. I will learn to see me as I am. Lets start with this drawing I did to illustrate a mode style for 40 years ago. I did not think so much on how I look, but something like me is there surely. At least the hair and the dress!
Selfies, self with sir william, Ann Hyde
Self portrait, people drawing generally is not in my comfort zone, so you will have to excuse me for hiding behind William for this one. Besides, he wanted to get in on the act too....I'm adding the actual photo, so if anyone wants to draw us it please go ahead and have fun.
"Selfies" Lynn Cohen
Time for our new theme change: Arnoldo L. Romero suggested the theme of SELFIES!
I am excited to see what you all come up with!
I did a lot of selfies in Sketchbook Skool. I think they are great fun. Mine all look different and not sure any of them look just like me, but each has something! I hope you will enjoy this exciting challenge given us by Arnoldo L. Romero.
And if anyone is interested and would like to draw each other we could set up an album of photos to draw from. Add you photo and then choose another bloggers photo to draw! Perhaps AFTER you do at least ONE SELFIE!!!
I haven't figured out how to set up an album yet, so I will add a photo of myself here. You are welcome to draw me AFTER you draw at least ONE SELFIE! Then if you like put your photo on your post and others can draw you as well as their own selfies! (Optional of course)
