Spring, Across the fields, Ann Hyde

Spring has sprung - at last here in the UK

The grass is growing, our mower has already seen the light from the shed.

This is an ACEO aka Art Card Editions and Originals (3.5 x 2.5 inches)

Spring theme - Spring Tulips -Tyanne

Hi, I am new to the blog. My name is Tyanne (rhymes with Diane) and I live in MN. I joined and then discovered I can not post pictures to this blog from my IPad so if anyone know how to do that, I would appreciate some tips. For this piece, I was playing around with a molotow masking pen and my goal was to use spring imagery and colors. These were from my imagination and were lots of fun to paint as we were having an early spring snowstorm.

Spring at the Arboretum, by Joan Tavolott

I have to say that I wasn't outdoors sketching these beautiful plants. I was indoors at the Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay. Mixed in with the tropical plants and flowers in the greenhouse were some Spring daffs and hydrangeas. It was cold outside but very warm in the greenhouse. :)

Spring, Proud Lake area by Rob Kulas

Spring, Proud Lake area by Rob Kulas

Saturday I did a pleinair sketch at the Proud Lake area.
Some of the fallen trees looked to me like creatures walking the shoreline.
It was only 17 degrees, windy but sunny.
I experimented with acrylics and did this fast loose sketch.
I couldn’t use water with the acrylics or to clean my brushes because it would of turned to ice.
It was a fun day with beautiful surroundings.
Just wish it would warm up.

Acrylics on paper.

"Spring" Lynn Cohen

Here's an oldie, but a goodie, when I used to create with my sewing machine!

Spring by Joan Tavolott

Don't laugh! This definitely symbolizes Spring...my sister (who was working on her painting today) is NOT wearing a turtleneck sweater or a sweatshirt, but a 3/4 sleeve shirt. Woo Hoo! Warm enough today to not wear something heavy...Spring must really be here.

Spring, Deer at the Gallery, by Elaine (jaguarish)

It's not really spring here -- in fact, it should be autumn (because I'm in Australia!) -- but it is so hot that it's more of an Indian summer, as they used to say where I grew up (New York).  I thought, however, that this sketch might suit the theme.  The deer, to me, symbolises new life and growth, although this is an odd one -- the artist (Kohei Nawa) conceived the idea by playing around with photos of objects until this idea struck him. He got two identical deer, merged their bodies, and covered the result with various clear bubbles.  I heard about him in an art talk and made the notes in the margins of the sketch, along with some other ideas that struck me while I was sketching the work.

I sketched this very rapidly in pencil first as I was conscious of my friend waiting for me (also, somehow pencil encourages me to be more scribbly and fluid).  Then, over lunch, I added the watercolour.  I had some fun spraying the paper with water and doing some "wet-in-wet" painting.  It was not until later that I decided I needed to define the surface better, and added some ink lines.

Below is a photo of the work, taken by my daughter.  I love how the photo includes a gallery-goer leaning over to peer more closely at the work!

Spring by Joan Tavolott

Yesterday was a rainy Spring day. I was upstate with my sister and after picking up our paintings from a show we rode around to find a barn to paint. Of course we sat in the car to paint this, but you can see the grass is starting to get a bit greener. Soon there will be buds on all the trees.

Spring, Hepaticas, Sirkka Jalava

It has been stormy weather several days, to day  its raining too. And +3C. The spring is on the way. Hepaticas are there, but not yeat really open. So I take a painting I made last yer, the day was 29.3.2014, so the spring was a little earlier than it is now.

Spring, Lynn Cohen

This is probably a flower I've shown before, but I love Passion flowers and it is one drawn from my own garden!

Spring, Morning Trees by Elisa Choi

Trees in the morning are filled with colors. I enjoy observing the various shades of green, yellow and red. The light brings beauty to them even more.

Spring, Ocean Air by Elisa Choi

This is still in Labrador Park. Husband and I went there last weekend. While he photographs the surrounding, I sketch what is around me. He enjoys photography while I enjoy urban sketching. Fun interests. :)

Spring Cherry Blossom by Joan Tavolott

We still have nothing in bloom here yet, so I found this one that I had already painted.

Spring, Spring signs, Sirkka Jalava

Still no more flowers this year, the spring is later than last year.
I have seen more crocus are on the way up, also tulips.
I took this sketch from last year at eastern to show some spring signs.
Found this vase with lilies-of-the-valley also made last spring.
I hope they give a little spring feelings to all of us!

Spring, Conversation by Elisa Choi

No Spring season in our country but I hope the colorful clothes of these ladies will bring some warmth and colors to your home. This was sketched at the Labrador Park in Singapore.

Spring, Springflowers, Sirkka Jalava

Spring is so hopegiving theme so I will participate in it. This spring  has been so cold, but also warm. Warm on daytime, therefore we have no snow more on the ground. Warm means some degrees on + side C. But  nights are  cold, with -5 C. So only snowdrops are in bloom and some crocuses.
But last spring they were blooming very good. I was out in the garden and painted them with watercolours.
This year I have not had time. And to day its again raining with a little snow too.

Spring - "sketching Deborah" -sandee setliff

Hi everyone, I think I have been hibernating through winter and am emerging slowly, lol Thank you Lynn for visiting my blog and checking in on me, that was so sweet! A couple of my fellow artist friends went outside yesterday sketching and this is one of the artists that I sketched. This is what you get when you sit down on something I was going to draw, lol That will teach her, huh? Here in Hendersonville, we have jonquils, crocus and hellebore in bloom but I drew none of them....

Spring, Baby in an Easter Bonnet, Penny Lee Stewart

I found this cutie pie on paintmyphoto.ning.com and could not resist painting her for the spring theme. Watercolor and pen on heavy paper.

Spring, Transition, Rob Kulas

Spring, "Transition", by Rob Kulas

This has been a long, harsh winter.
We finally had some warmer weather over the last week and finally the snow is melting.

I painted this one out in a field. A great day to be outside.
I tried to portray the feel of "transition to spring". The snow melting quickly.
Soon the fresh spring colors will be in abundance.
