Selfies and Others, "My Family", Lynn Cohen

On our recent road trip to Portland where we visited our son and his wonderful wife, and two of his three children I drew every day. I drew with my three year old grand daughter who told me who to draw. Here is a two page spread of drawings of the family. Top: husband, soon to be 21 year old grand daughter, She and her man friend, my dear daughter in law, and the baby of the family. Bottom: my husband reading a book.

A mix of water soluble colored pencils, ink, and watercolors and markers. And a lot of fun!

Three more days of "Selfies and Others" and then we are on to drawing flowers!
We need more suggestions please for future themes ... We have run out so make suggestions or I will have to do it all myself! I like the group input here! Thanks, Lynn

Selfies and Others, "Elaine, Jaguarish", Lynn Cohen

Elaine, I really enjoyed drawing you. I used my new Staedtler pen with the fine tip. These are my new pens of choice! I used Newton and Winsor watercolors too. I loved the wisp of hair across your face! (The other smudges on the page have nothing to do with you!) Thanks for offering up your lovely photo!

Selfies and Others, Sandee by Joan Tavolott

This time I tried Sandee. I think it resembles her a little, but doesn't make her look as pretty as she did in the photo....sorry!

Selfies and Others, Elaine, by Sirkka Jalava

I have given a try, three tries, to get Elaines beautiful features on the paper. I can not decide, which one of them is most like her. So I let you do it instead.
This first one I did last. They all are aquarelles in size 32x24cm.
This is the second one.
And this I did first. I had not realized yet the eyes and nose, how they should look.  So when I look at these pictures I get more and more the feeling, that the first one which I did last, has most likness . What do you think?

Selfies, Lynn, Ann Hyde

Hope this is okay to use Lynn...you challenged folks on fb with this and felt it fitted the theme here...

(as I've said, I'm practicing)  ;)

I used a watercolour pencil then went over with a little clear water.  Added a little blush to the skin, but didn't want to make this too wet due to the fact the watercolour pencil would run too much.

How did I go about this - I didn't look at Lynn's features, I just concentrated on the shading starting with the darkest.

Selfies and Others, Margaret by Joan Tavolott

Margaret, thanks for the reference photo. I am doing these small, about 4 x 5.
I'll be doing another "victim" probably tomorrow although the next few days are very busy for me.
I have my first solo art reception tonight and then I am participating in a local plein air paintout from Friday until Sunday. I don't know if I will participate all 3 days but I will be definitely doing either painting or sketching either with them or the Urban Sketchers in NYC.
