Where I live and Old (two themes), Lynn Cohen

I'm catching up here and doubling up with place where I live (last months theme) and old. Our home I drew a few years ago I've been living in since we purchased it in 1988, so some might think it is old. (this months theme).
Even older than that is ME,  as seen in the selfie below. For some reason I must be tired because I refuse to sit upright. But that's okay. I think I old folks need more rest.

 

It's fun being here as an "author/artist" now that this is Bev's blog! Wishing everyone a very Creative Week ahead.

And how relieved was I to learn being in my 70's was great with her! She said I sounded young on the phone! Whew!

I really struggle with doing selfies! But sometimes if I use a brush pen it works out, as a way to stop myself from getting bogged down in details.

Jean Bernick Self-portrait

My first ever self- portrait.I don't think it looks like me,but that's o.k., because I can never make sketches of people look like them. I have set a goal of doing 31 faces in January. This is #8,but first of me. I did this looking at myself in the mirror,maybe Ill do another from a photo. Colored this with colored pencil since my new Platnum Preppy pen has water-soluable ink in it still and didn't want to smudge it. This was fun.

I hope I do this right! Thanks to Lynne for letting me know about the selfie theme and for inviting me to post here. 

My name is Louise Fletcher and I have set myself the herculean task of drawing/painting 'selfies' for an entire year. 365 days of looking at myself. Yikes!

I'm doing it because I want to stretch myself, both artistically and personally.

In today's portrait I'm wearing red. This probably sounds like nothing until I tell you that my entire wardrobe is black, grey, dark green and navy blue.

Red is a whole new thing!

I used oil pastel crayons first coloring shapes or spaces (I forget the word for that)

Then I filled in detail with pen!

We had to do a four color palette self portrait for a college art class I took several years ago. I chose to do this one that I use for my Profile picture that my son choose when he was setting up my website & Facebook. My reference photo was from around the time my husband had gotten back from Viet Nam, and I was reflecting on all

the friends that we had lost during that war.

I wanted to sketch myself from life, but I needed to change it up a little from the last selfie I posted. I found that I could pose in front of the "photo booth" on my Mac and could see myself live instead of trying to balance a mirror. lol 

Day Four, Selfie, Lynn Cohen

Busy day today! Morning began at Starbucks where I drew several pages and people, always satisfying; took iPhone in to see if they could help get my games center connected so games I play with Ann and her husband in UK on my iPad would now also be on the iPhone! Thought that got squared away, but now I'm not so sure! I feel good health wise after having had a bad cough for a week! This selfie looks youthful, healthy, more how I feel than how I actually look! Even when one is old in years they can still feel and see themselves as youthful inside!
