Patterns & Textures, Colorful Fish, Sandy Hames

First time posting so if I do this wrong just let me know.   I've been meaning to post so finally I'm contributing something.   This was an imaginary fish and the only time I've done a patterned sketch like this.  I enjoyed it and might do more.

This was done with a mix of colored pencil, watercolor pencils and ink.

Patterns & Textures, Clay Bird, Ann Hyde

Okay, so I'm pushing the boundaries a bit here (hope that's ok Lynn?)....

I made this little bird out of air-dried clay in preparation for another project I'm going to get involved in at some point.  When I checked to see how he had dried out, I was struck by the texture of him and the patterns I had added before he dried out.  Alright I admit, he is hardly perfect (well, not at all bless him), but I made him and he will suffice for what I need and thus I love him, lol.

The technique for drawing is from another class I am taking where you use one-line drawing (rather like blind contour drawing which I have done before).  As it turns out I really like this technique and I have a feeling you may be seeing this style pop up again.

I drew the above whilst I was actually holding the clay bird, but below is a photo of him taken just after I completed moulding out the clay.....now you can see where I got the patterns and textures.

Patterns and Textures, Patterned Dress by Elisa Choi

Her patterned dress caught my interest...

Texture, "Dirt and Rust", Lynn Cohen

I drew this tonight for Every Day in November and as I worked its rust and dirt I realized it was full of texture!

Theme: Patterns & Texture, CL Christian

I haven't had time to create something new for this Theme, but I thought of animal skins, and how many different patterns & textures they have. Here is my rough ink sketch of an elephant using my artist's model. An elephant's skin is naturally wrinkled, and saggy.

Patterns & Textures, Rocks, Ann Hyde

A walk along the cliffs yesterday gave me the inspiration for this painting.  I got Texture into this by using some Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground in a thick layer on the paper, and drew into it before it dried to leave the rock patterns.  Once dry, I then added the paint.

Patterns and Textures, Cats and Bricks, Penny Lee Stewart

Awhile back I painted these bricks for a challenge of "All In A Row" and I really worked on the texture, impasto, using thick paint, trying to make it look like a brick and mortar wall. But who wants to buy a picture of a wall? So I added the cat silhouettes and finally sold it thru my Daily Paint Works site, www.pennyleestewart.com. It was done in acrylics on an 8x10 canvas board. Not an ATC. LOL.

Patterns and Textures, Rubbings 1 by Elisa Choi

I placed the paper on the wooden door and use crayons to do rubbings for texture and pattern. It was fun and quite relaxing to "color" with abandon, turn the paper on all sides to capture different textures. I look forward to see what you create with this theme. Have a great day!
