Memories of School

There wasn't room on the my schoolhouse to write the name so I used mine :-) I always wore little English type outfits and sailor dresses were my favorites...and Mary Janes were my favorite shoes. We walked home for lunch at noon and then returned at two for physical education until four. At that time I was allowed to wear PE clothes and shoes.  There were no school buses. We all walked to and from school. The depiction of me is a moving doll I cut and painted with her appendages hooked to the body by picture wire. Sorry about the curve in the photo. Somehow where I had to place the journal and the page being a bit curved, the picture turned out a skewed.  It looks normal in my journal.

With all of my Poison Ivy, I would give anything to be floating in the water at the beach:-)

The good news is...after 4 weeks, I am FINALLY getting over it....WOOHOO!

It has taken two, two week bouts of prednisone which I do not like to take.

This was m first attempt at really mixing media. I even tried using Gesso and made one huge mess. Boy, is it hard to fix :-) Eloise's face and hat are so light, buts'll just have to live with it. This is all so new to me, and if I do not try, I will never learn. The clocks and bicycle were found on a Google picture search. I digitally put the poppies around Eloise in her Mexican hat at Walt Disney World.

This pretty little basket was made for me some 30 years ago by our art teacher, Pam Tinsley, back when we taught together at Highland Belle Middle School.  I have used it over and over again through the years, and it is still in pristine condition. It is one of my favorite things in which to place fresh flowers.  I need to learn where to place my journal in order not to get all the noise in the photos. This one is full of it.

The yellow Lady’s Slipper was sketched using Dr. Oscar Gumption’s book Wildflowers of the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains. Dr. Gupton was a professor in the Department of Biology at Virginia Military Institute here in Lexington, VA. My son continues to be good friends with his son, Craig.
