Flowers, Jug of Spring Flowers, Amanda Webster

I picked a random assortment of flowers and popped them in a jug.  I decided to do a challenge from Veronica Lawlor's book which was to use ink and nibs of varying sizes.  It seemed the easiest way to go as the detail was overwhelming for me.  I watered down some ink and added the shading at the end.  I think I like it ok

  1. I like the shading added to the ink, not sure I've ever seen that.

  2. This is a lovely drawing Amanda. The use of different nib sizes works well.

  3. Thanks Linda and Ann, I think I'll try the technique again on different subjects. I started with a really big nib for the jug and some of the darker flowers and then used two more, each one a bit finer. The shading was just the inky water that I washed the nibs in.

  6. Amanda, welcome! So happy to see you posting your wonderful art here! Don't you just love it when the ink runs with water to add shades of black and grey? I sure do! Lovely job on both foliage and vase. I look forward to more from you! Thanks for joining us.

  7. Simply gorgeous! Really like the black and white flowers, done so well, they seem to color in your mind when you look at them!

  8. Amanda, this is beautiful! You captured their freshness without color. I like using ink and letting it bleed and wash a bit. Well done!

  9. I love it! We usually think of bright colors when imagining flowers, but these are so well done, they don't need color!
