Buildings Around the World, Windmill, Ann Hyde

I've used one of the reference photos in the right-hand sidebar for this painting.  In fact it was a photograph I took a couple or so years ago when we visited the Isle of Wight off the South Coast of the UK.

BEMBRIDGE WINDMILL

Watercolour on Saunders Waterford Rough paper

  1. Ann, your windmill is great! The sky and shadings on the windmill make me feel, that it is a sunny day and surely there is some wind too!

    1. Thanks Sirkka. I enjoyed painting the sky in this one. I've just got some new brushes and they are turning out to be very helpful.

  2. Such a lovely watercolor this photo makes! Love all your browns and blues! And that you've used the brush to draw the picture!

    1. Thanks Lynn. With the body of the windmill, I did a base coat of yellow ochre. When that was dry I added burnt umber to the right side and clear water to blend that over the building.

    1. Thanks Barb, I think it helps that I have actually seen this building.

  5. You have mastered the technique of watercolor brilliantly. Just enough. Not too much. Less is more. Beautiful.

  6. So gorgeous, Ann. I tried to do a windmill one time and it was so terrible. I really admire this one.
