Kitchen - ann hyde

Surprising how many things there are in a kitchen...even a plant (no idea what it is called though). The jug next to it in this drawing is part of our coffee maker, but I missed out the top...I'll get it another time, lol.

I've added the pen I used (thinking outside the box here) my new Sailor pen - and yes the nib does curl up like this.  It's actually a Sailor Calligraphy pen (obviously the calligraphy bit I need to work on!!!) but the lines I get from it are perfect for drawing with.  It just takes a bit of practice to know how to control the lines.

    1. PS is that a Frieling french press?

    2. Thanks Margaret, yes it is that type of coffee maker. Not sure it's actually a Frieling, but it does the same job :-)

  2. Nice drawing with the different line widths. That pen is very unusual and I am sure it is difficult to get used to.

    1. Hi Fran, yes the pen did take some getting used to, but SO worth it :-)

  3. Your lines are great. The pen I've never heard of but it sounds interesting. I also like how the blue of it stands out, yet still forces your eyes to the background. Nicely done. :) I'll remember the pen name. Thanks.

    1. Hi Gloria, I hadn't heard of this pen until recently. A fellow Blogger, Lynn Chapman - an Illustrator mentioned it, so I thought I would give it a go. I think this is how we learn isn't it, giving different products a try can turn out worth it 😊

  4. Love your thinking "outside the box" Ann. And your perspective on this one!!! Like the color against the back ink too!

    1. Thanks Lynn, the perspective didn't work until I added the lines, surprising how one small addition can make such a difference :-)

  5. This looks like it would be a fun pen to draw with. I love the thick and thin lines!

  6. I'm a scaredy cat about trying this type of pen. I like something that only does one type of line. lol! So, I'm very proud of you for trying something new and conquering it! Nice sketch!

    1. Thanks Joan, it was only when I finished the sketch of the plant and pot, put the pen down and thought 'ahh, I'll add the pen'.

    1. It's a very interesting pen Sirkka. Takes a bit of getting used to but gives a nice effect for sketching. The only thing is the ink cartridges aren't permanent, so I have to do the paint work first, let it dry and then add the pen.

  9. I was admiring the variation in lines you have achieved in your drawing - I find the fact that my favourite Pitt pens don't allow any thick/thin variations disappointing, so when I read about the Sailor pan I was interested. It's a pity the ink isn't waterproof though, but I'll look them up.
