I did this sketch yesterday morning so I thought I'd try to squeeze it in although the theme has changed...

This lady was smiling to herself as she read her screen and I really wondered what she was reading.  A love note?  News from a friend?  I drew the lines over the course of two station stops and was so caught up that my station caught me by surprise.  She sat so still she was the perfect model!

(Later, in spare moments throughout the day, I added the colour from memory.)

While the weather was cold I've been going to a portrait group on Tuesday mornings until my plein air group gets going for the season. After I finished today's portrait I did a quick sketch of two of my friends that were busy painting the model.

Do you know, I carried my sketchbook diligently all week but never found an opportune moment to draw?  I like to draw people on the train or at the station, usually, but it just didn't work out this week.

Following Lynn's lead I was sketching at Starbucks tonight with my sketch group. I have sketched the view towards the counters many times, so tonight I sketched a young man and the view out the windows behind him.

I have a file on computer named 'Random sketches', which I've just taken a look through.  Hadn't realised I actually do sketch people as such, they are so not my thing, but I came across this one of a couple sitting chatting.  We were in a hotel at the time and decided I would sketch during breakfast, I obviously thought this couple worth a quick doodle!

Have to admit, I did this drawing a year ago but thought I would add it to prove that in the past I have drawn people.  Okay, so this is the 'back' of this lady, but you got to admit it does resemble a person, which is good considering I'm not a people drawing person.

Yesterday I participate in a fundraising art show with 10 other artists called "With One Stroke" for the benefit of Suffolk Hospice. We raised over $1,500 for their new hospice location to care for those at the end of life stage. It is a very worthy cause. Snacks and wine were provided and artwork was raffled off. Each of us had an area to display our own artwork for sale. It was a fun day! Of course I pulled out my sketchbook and recorded the scene in front of me.

When I was in NYC the other day I went to Union Square Park to sketch. It was fun to see all the activity there now that it actually feels like spring here. I could have stayed for hours capturing some of the activities going on...too bad I had a train to catch. I did do one sketch of people sitting on benches while an entertaining accordion player came through and one of several people sitting around one of the fountains.

Last Saturday, I spent the early afternoon watching people fly kites out at the 18th Annual Kite Festival in Flat Rock, NC I did discover that doing watercolor sketches of people running around "on the fly" was just too hard for me, so I water colored the background and took some photos to draw from of the kite flyers. It's a mixture of Peerless Watercolors, Inktense Blocks, and Micron Pen.
