This is the chair where my clients sit to talk
In 1991 I received my State License to be a Marriage, Family Therapist (after six years of education, Internships, and 3000 hours of practice under supervision.). Prior to that I was a Biofeedback Trainer, another type of counseling for ten years. Since then I have seen thousands of clients with many, many problems involving mental health issues. The person below is a composite of all of those clients (females, males, LGBT, young, old, children, teens). I love my work. But I am starting to wind down my private practice thinking about retirement. Maybe next year sometime. Time will tell.
I received a huge compliment today when I got a call from a client I first saw in my very first office, she said 25 years ago, asking to be my client again. Wow! I'm glad I'm still working so I can see her now.
This is not really one of my clients, just a person in need I drew from my imagination.
Any resemblance to anyone living or dead is completely coincidental.
Lovely chair - interesting, I was, in order order of attainment, Transactional Analyst and Marriage and Family Therapist, licensed, in Maryland (an Addictions Counsxelor as well) - My chair was not as lovely as yours... I retired over 24 years ago - I higly recommend it (I'm not 90 years old- retired early).
ReplyDeleteLOL Glad you are not 90. I got my license late in life, at age 50. So I am pushing 90! LOL Fun to have another therapist on board. The chair is covered in cloths to cover where the stuffing is coming out. It appears to be aging as am I. ;-) Glad you like it.
DeleteLove your drawings Lynn, they sum up your work beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ann.
DeleteWow Lynn thank you for sharing your work! I enjoyed reading about it and looking at your lovely and sentimental sketches and colors. It's wonderful to have your own business in a sense you own your own practice in therapy. I am sure you have been a great help to your many clients as seen in this lady who hasn't forgotten you after all these years. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Elisa. Yes, that call yesterday was a real feather in my cap! I love being in business for myself. Only insurance companies to answer too and not too often. So that is good.
DeleteLiked your "homey" comfortable chair. I'm sure it made your clients feel more at home than in an office.
ReplyDeleteThanks CL. That "homey chair" is in my office in an old Victorian house. Everyone who enters my office exclaims about how comfortable it makes them feel!
DeleteWhat a rewarding work life I imagine. I like the way you illustrated the chair in pen and then with the colorful pillows, nice job.
