One day when I visited my friend's house, she turned out to be not at home, but these chickens were wandering happily through her garden. Bemused, I took several photos and this painting is based on one of the photos. I later found out that they belong to a neighbour and have made the entire neighbourhood their domain. I did this painting as a fun warm-up trying to get myself in the mood to tackle another (intimidating) "selfie" portrait... I include the chicken photo below in case you feel like doing a version!
