Imagine my happy surprise when I realised that I had done a sketch in theme for PPP&P! I just happened to sketch a musician at the local Sunday markets yesterday morning. He is a lot younger than this sketch make him look... oh well! This was a tricky capture, as he naturally swayed and turned while he sang (standing up).

This is such a beautiful painting Elaine. It is difficult to draw people 'out in the world' anyway, but when they move about all the time it is even more difficult. Your watercolouring is lovely, and you have drawn the guitar perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jez, he was a great subject (I asked him if I could sketch him and so he knew I was doing it). I am still learning the most effective way to use my watercolours, thank you for the compliments!
DeleteElaine, you did a great job on the musician. They do move around a bit but luckily return to the same poses over and over. Nice!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joan - he did come back but then I would always wonder if I was choosing the right moment or if I was sketching some other pose ... I think this is how he ended up looking a bit portly when actually he is young and slim...
DeleteSuperb sketching Elaine. To be able to sketch at a live performances with him moving as you said it is a gift as well. Magnificent so detailed. And anyways
ReplyDeletewe would not know if he was younger or older. He looks pretty good to me in his looks. Hoot, Hoot! If he sings as well as you drew him.
Hoot, Hoot! ha-ha.
Thank you so much - I'm glad you like it. Musicians are wonderful to draw because there is such energy in what they're doing, even when they're staying relatively still. I fancy that the energy then comes out in a drawing of them. I hope it does, anyway!
DeleteHow fun! You must have anticipated our theme :) This guy is great. You've got him perfectly. I love his arm and how strongly he's holding the guitar. I can almost hear him.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret - yes I was thrilled when I realised I was in theme. I like his arm too - it was fascinating to realise his arm muscles were flexing and tensing so much (of course they were because he was moving his fingers over the frets, but I never really thought about it before).
DeleteHe looks strong and powerful! I can almost hear his song! Great lines make powerful picture!
