Music and Musicians, The Trio, Jez Eden

Following on from yesterday's post, Dev went along with both our girls for lessons, and here they are, each with their own accordion.  The teacher, Pauline, was a lovely young girl of 18, the daughter of circus performers, who had left her parents.  She was dainty and slight, but she could play the accordion at the speed of light.

A couple of years later Pauline, the teacher, got married, and Dev and the girls moved on to different instruments.

Derek had made Pauline's gold wedding ring, and matching engagement ring with diamond in - a hobby of his for some years.  We didn't see her for for years and years.  Then one day we visited a National Trust Tudor house, and in one corner of the large hall a woman was playing a harp.  She and Dev looked at each other and said simultaneously "I know you", and we realised it was Pauline.  She held out her hand with the rings on and said "It's our 25th Wedding Anniversary this week".

So, not just a musical memory, but a musical co-incidence.

  1. What a NEAT story! I love this portrait of the three of them, each with their own personality and their own accordion! You are definitely a pro at drawing them, and that's exactly how someone's hands look when they're playing. All splayed like that.

    1. I found the hands so hard to draw, the position is so awkward and 'wrong looking'. Thank you Margaret, I'm glad you like the sketch and the story.

  2. Your accordion players are playing so naturally. They enjoy their music. It was a great story you told of the players and the teacher, Jez.

    1. Thank you Sirkka, I always thought it was lovely that they all played together, and that Dev kept himself down to their level when playing.

  3. oh this is a real neat story and 25 years she was married Pauline. Oh this is so interesting how they met. Had to be right. Nothing is a mistake. I met two of my friends when I moved and retired. One in a wee corner restaurant another in next town a Realtor and I noticed the paper menu had his picture and Company Firm in Restaurant in a Fish and chip place. So Met him. My hubby took picture of him and I. His wife was not too happy camper with us. She works with him. Yikes. Oh memories are golden to me her oh No.. I goofed with a picture.

Like Margaret said. Your hands placed so perfect in you sketching.

  5. Hi Jez,
what a wonderful story. Sounds like a fairy tale out of a very old book...
I like you page with this three musicans looking so happy.. And I really would like to see a picture of Pauline playing the harp in the corner of a large tudor house with the rings on her fingers.
    Ciao Beo

    1. Wow, that's a real challenge Beo, and I think I'm not ready for that - what a pity we didn't have a camera with us to take a photo at the time. Before the theme is over, I am hoping to do a harp sketch from a photo Dev took many years ago.
Thank you for your very nice comments.

  6. What a nice story!! I love this of the three of them with the accordions! I always whished that I could play an instrument, but it seems I have no talent in that area. lol

  7. Thanks Joan. Like you I wish I could play an instrument. I played simple songs on a guitar Dev bought me in the 1970s for a while, but I was hampered by my complete lack of knowledge of music notes reading, and my inability to pick it up, so the guitar was passed to one of the grandsons. How lucky we are that art can take its place for us.
