Time away from Home, Chicago Trip by Margaret Coote

Hi everyone! I've just gotten back from a 3-day trip to Chicago with the improv tour group from the music school where I teach. We (4 faculty, 14 kids ranging in age from about 9 to 18) took the overnight train from Rochester on Friday night, and the overnight train again last night...we just got back this morning!

There wasn't a whole lot of extra time, so I didn't do any sketching, but I did do some painting with the kids on the train. I bought a new paintbrush that turned out to be terrible, and we nicknamed it "The Mop". We took turns using The Mop and a smaller paintbrush I'd brought with me :)  I also made a mini-timeline of our trip and the kids helped decorate it. I thought I'd share some it here! I'll put up all of it on my blog.

We had a great time.

I wish I could scan this 2-page spread all together, but it doesn't all fit. So here are the 2 pages one by one:

  2. Sounds an interesting trip, and all the involvement with the youngsters and the rush of varied activities. The artwork is so lively, storing up memories for the future. I hope all the musical side went well.

  4. Thank you Ann and Jez! Yes, it was a great thing to be involved with. I was so impressed with these kids and how professional they were in their performing and sharing, and what hardy travelers they were. We spent all night on the train and they got up and gave a great performance, and were pretty much uncomplaining!

  5. I love the primitive look of these pages and I can see that you and the kids had such fun creating them. They are so honest and true in nature. I love painting and drawing together with my grandkids. And when I look back in my art journals and see where their pens or paints splashed around I feel great joy.
