Pineapple top, kitchen, by Elaine (jaguarish)

I bought some Pitt artist brush pens a while back but have struggled to hit the mark with them, somehow.  Thanks to the kitchen challenge I've finally managed to create something I like!

This is the top we saved from a delicious pineapple -- I was almost regretting the decision to save it for planting, as I could have then eaten more of the pineapple!  I lazily stored it on a plate for about a week, moving it to various spots in the kitchen as it was huge and in the way wherever I put it.  After making this sketch I finally got myself into gear and planted this straight into the garden after drawing it.

  3. Awesome leaves and pineapple top! Will it really grow into a tree? How long until you will see fruit!?? I want to do this!

  4. Thanks everyone - it was fun layering the colours, which I haven't really tried before with these pens. I think having some grey also made a big difference as in the past I'd always felt like the results were kind of cartoony. Lynn - it doesn't grow into a tree - it grows into a 1.5m low mound of spiny leaves (similar in appearance to some succulents). Pineapples are a bromeliad! I also just found out while searching for info to pass along to you, that I should have done things differently for optimal planting (oh, well!) 5. You did a great job with this! I never feel like I have the right colors to do much with the Pitt pens, although I do like the brush tips. Your pineapple looks great! My mom used to grow pineapple plants from the tops like this.

  9. I went looking for PITT brush pens today with no luck. Are they like pointed markers?
