Red Breasted Goose - Jez
A4 Sketchbook Page
Sketch with Black Pit Pen, colour added digitally |
The 'park' we visit most frequently is at Martin Mere, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Centre in Lancashire. It's not strictly a park, though it has an adventure playground for children, canoe safaris and other attractions for children, as well as the thrill for even the tiny children of trying to persuade the geese to feed from their hands. There are many different paths to follow and several hides for bird-watching.
The Red Breasted Goose is my favourite. I love the strong graphic quality of its patterns and colouring, which is why, once I had drawn it I wanted to colour it in strong flat colours on Photoshop.

Sketch with Black Pitt Pen |
When we visited the Centre on Monday one of the R.B. Geese stood right in my path without moving. I walked up close to him and took a photograph from above. The sketch was drawn from my photo, very quickly (for me) - it took me less than 30 minutes. I find that I am drawing more quickly and more confidently just since I joined PPP&P.
One day I may get around to painting the sketch with acrylics or watercolour, but for now I'm pleased with this.
And pleased you should be!!! This is a delightful story and a beautiful illustration of your goose! I like the photoshopped colors, the details you brought out on the goose yourself. And I am delighted that you are benefiting from your participation in this blog in ways that please you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lynn - it was worth the effort to get here in spite of all my difficulties in linking up!
DeleteIt's a great sketch Jez. The colors are perfect. Great job.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gloria. Yes, the colours are so striking, and the bird's feathers create a design almost like an abstract painting
ReplyDeleteWhat a great sketch Jez, plus with your use of photoshop for the colouring in...I haven't got the hang of digital at all. Good to know posting here is helping your sketching.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful sketch and colored drawing. Congrats for working with your digital media.
ReplyDeleteJez, I love what you did with the pen and the coloring of the drawing. It has a wonderful personality.
ReplyDeleteWow Jez you are good at digital painting. I really like the colors and the character of this goose. And i agree that when you draw daily you will be able to draw quickly and observe too. I'm same with you. :)
ReplyDeleteJez, this is a great painting of the goose. Good done digitally too!
ReplyDeleteThank you to everyone for your encouraging comments. I hope the weather is improving for everyone.
