When my grandma died at 96 a year ago, I brought home a few of her dishes. Just a few, because I don't have anywhere to store or display them. These usually live on top of the refrigerator but I brought them down to the tile top table to sketch them.

Very special items - I love your double page spread Melisa :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, these are so pretty. I'm glad you let yourself have these. I have a whole set of my grandmother's china. I have given some to cousins. It' is a way to keep her memory close at hand for me. I have many things from her home, actually, as I was allowed to go through it after her three daughters were done. The things left were things my quirky personality wanted and no one else did. Like two carved wooden people, an old man and an old woman that look Russian Jewish... I loved them when I visited as a child. Now they live with me and my grandchildren see them. I wonder who will want them after I die?
ReplyDeleteYour painting is simply lovely. It warms my heart.
