Gardens & Parks, Afton Villa by Melisa McCurley

Afton Villa, in St. Francisville, LA, is the site of an antebellum home that burned down in 1963. Even though the house is gone, the beautiful gardens and statuary remain and are maintained. It's a great place to picnic and take photos in the spring. During pilgrimage, you will find people there in period costume. My sketch does not do the place justice at all.

  1. The costumed figure is very well drawn, and I love the pots of flowers. I have painted those mossy trees before and it is not easy to get that look, but you have done well with this one. I feel like I am there.

  3. I do believe you have captured the essence of this place Melisa. The wonderful moss coming off the trees, the costumed Belle sitting on the bench, the large pots of flowers all speak beauty to me. So nicely done.
