Afton Villa, in St. Francisville, LA, is the site of an antebellum home that burned down in 1963. Even though the house is gone, the beautiful gardens and statuary remain and are maintained. It's a great place to picnic and take photos in the spring. During pilgrimage, you will find people there in period costume. My sketch does not do the place justice at all.

The costumed figure is very well drawn, and I love the pots of flowers. I have painted those mossy trees before and it is not easy to get that look, but you have done well with this one. I feel like I am there.
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous double page spread Melisa. Nice to read about the place too :-)
ReplyDeleteI do believe you have captured the essence of this place Melisa. The wonderful moss coming off the trees, the costumed Belle sitting on the bench, the large pots of flowers all speak beauty to me. So nicely done.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on the live oak with the dripping moss. This is lovely!
ReplyDeleteSo peaceful and lovely. One gets the feeling from your painting.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work. You've captured all it's glory.:)
ReplyDeleteFun piece and nicely done. Love that you used both pages of book.
