The house I grew up in, by Elaine (jaguarish)

When I looked at photos of the house I grew up in, it didn't mean a lot to me!  I was ten years old when we moved away, but I barely remember what the house actually looked like, except for the columns at the front.  So I decided to instead do a very simple drawing -- but as I went along I started to remember little things.  This was so fun!  I made a few notes and found that I was running out of room for them,  Hence the messy result -- sorry about that.

Down one side of the page, I had been practising my doodling technique (it seems crazy to practise doodling, but I am hoping to work my way through this book and advance to whatever's next) and somehow the doodles seemed to complement the little drawing, so I've included them in the image as well.

Time moves on and the house I grew up in has changed.  The new owners (some 20 or so years ago!!)
added a first floor....still the same house to me though.

House Where I grew up, "Living Room" , Lynn Cohen

Our house was small, around 1300 square feet. On a corner lot. Parents bought it new in 1941 for $7000. I lived there until I turned 18 and left home for college. I had parties or friends over and could "entertain them" in our living room. My parents had turned my older brother's room into a den when he left for college. The TV we got when he left home was in there. So my parents had a room to go to. The living room had wall to wall carpet, a fireplace, a large console radio/phonograph player; and standard furniture. Here it is from memory. The tall secretary/desk is something I inherited and still have in my own living room today.

Here's a small sketch of my mum working hard...

well, pretending to work hard with some building work.

I've taken this from a photo I have of her when alterations were being

done to the bungalow.  We needed to make it more accessible for her.

Bless her heart, she stood with the shovel pretending she was doing all the work...gives me

such a giggle to look back on - she was a good sport.

This little bungalow is where I grew up til I got married.

It was a wonderful family home, we lived

with my grandparents there too.

The patio doors on the left were a later addition, 

but when I lived there that had been a window and

was my bedroom.
