The house I grew up in, by Elaine (jaguarish)

When I looked at photos of the house I grew up in, it didn't mean a lot to me!  I was ten years old when we moved away, but I barely remember what the house actually looked like, except for the columns at the front.  So I decided to instead do a very simple drawing -- but as I went along I started to remember little things.  This was so fun!  I made a few notes and found that I was running out of room for them,  Hence the messy result -- sorry about that.

Down one side of the page, I had been practising my doodling technique (it seems crazy to practise doodling, but I am hoping to work my way through this book and advance to whatever's next) and somehow the doodles seemed to complement the little drawing, so I've included them in the image as well.

  1. Lovely to see your first home Elaine and so good that this brought back childhood memories for you. Great page too, I like that you had the doodling on the left too. Plus I like the background you have done. Now I'm going to check your Location link below to see where Poughkeepsie is (what a great name btw) ...ann :-)

  3. Delightfully drawn and titled. I loved how your memories came back to you as you drew this. I can see so how art therapy works! Thanks for sharing your childhood memories with us and your doodles which are so well done. Zen tangle are they?

  4. Thanks for the comments... I nearly didn't post this page as it seemed to be more about the words than the drawing! But as I said I enjoyed diving into the memories. (When I suggested the theme, I had envisioned doing my usual architectural drawing, but really the house is very plain and uninteresting architecturally...) Lynn - the doodles are based on suggested exercises in Bert Dodson's "Keys to Drawing with Imagination" - I haven't gotten very far into it yet, but it gets great reviews here: http://www.amazon.com/Keys-Drawing-Imagination-Strategies-Confidence/dp/1581807570
