In a whimsical mood this morning, I thought of doing an alphabet of fruit for the current theme. This was also a chance to trot out my Daniel Smith and Winsor & Newton watercolor dot sample cards. I also had fun making up different fonts to go with each fruit.
I learned some really interesting facts about fruit doing this (thanks Wikipedia!) such as: the Jabotica grows on a tree trunk (check out the amazing photo on Wikipedia!); the Illawarra plum grow a double fruit; the aubergine (eggplant) is technically a fruit because it has seeds. I chose most of these fruits as having cultural significance to me, as a Chinese American now living in Australia, if you can imagine that!
In case you are interested, below are my swatches from doing each fruit.
