Yesterday, my oldest daughter and I were going to take an afternoon swim, when she noticed what appeared to be a cluster of dried leafs on the pool ledge. I usually skim the pool on a daily basis, because of all the trees that surround it, so I told her I'd take care of it. To our surprise, it was a little bat taking a nap probably after a night of feasting on mosquitoes and other bugs in our backyard. I gently scooped it out with a leaf skimmer net on a long pole. It made a soft sound and opened its wings, so we knew it was alive, but it was very wet. I carefully rested it on the soil of a large pot with room for it to dry. We kept an eye on it from a distance, and after a short while, it was clinging upside down on the ledge of the pot. When my youngest daughter arrived in the evening, I took her out to introduce her to our pool guest. However, the bat had already flown away. I was sad to see that it was gone, but glad it was healthy enough to do so. I did a little research, and found out it was a Seminole Bat, a solitary type of bat in this area. In its memory, I did a quick pencil sketch in my art journal. Blessings!

Good sketch of this creature from memory. Glad you were able to get it safely out of the water and that it was able to fly away.
ReplyDeleteGood that you could rescue this little guest from the wild life nature! Even if you got sad when it was gone, you felt happy too. Meeting the wild animals are a great experience, And now you can look at your drawing as a good memory of it.
