Music and Musicians theme, "A Music and Art Night Out in Davis, CA", Lynn Cohen
Last night we went to Davis to the Art About where I met Urban Sketcher, Pete Scully. What a pleasure that was! Very personable guy, from London! He spent an enormous amount of time telling me about how he draws, with what, etc. around Davis as an Urban Sketcher. I got to hold and look through several of his amazing art journals. This photo is from a "sketch -zine" he published and I got for $3 from him. It includes 15 pages of art and journaling.
I purchased this sweet houses in Davis drawing/watercolor from him ...
... and then we wound up the evening at the music fest where I drew the musicians above in someone's home. All because we ran into a friend of my husband at the restaurant where we were having dinner, who told us about the music event. What a terrific day and evening this was.

Wow! You are so lucky to have met a fellow artist from the Urban Sketchers, especially someone as well known as Pete Scully.
ReplyDeleteHe was very charming in a soft, quiet way. Very unassuming. Very forthcoming with information to share. I liked him. I LOVED his art! His sketchbooks were awesome.
DeleteOh this is spectacular art from this artist.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is!
DeleteI love your musicians sketches...what a relaxed vibe. Sounds like it was an inspirational meeting with Pete Scully. Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteThanks, and yes, it was very much so. I did go on to draw for several hours after meeting him.
DeleteLove your sketches of the musicians!!! Your work has gotten so much stronger. How great that you met Pete Scully...he does really detailed sketches.
ReplyDeleteJoan, so nice of you to say. I think I feel a change in my confidence. With daily positive feedback it's hard not to. SBS is amazing that way. Pete was terrific as I keep saying, his art, detailed and lively.
DeleteI love, love your wonderfully complex sketches, and it is interesting to pick out little details that you covered on your course, like the cross hatching. Pete Scully is certainly a marvellous artist, and what a great evening you had.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jez! You are so good at noticing details! And I agree 100% about Mr. Scully!
DeleteAnd I said that about your sketching before I read Joan's comment, so it shows the great developments that are taking place in your artwork. Sounds a good course.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful class and I learn as much from looking at the other students works as I do from the teachers. I cannot recommend this class highly enough. And the interaction in the greater Facebook community is worth all the tea in China and much more than what we expected to get from signing up for this class!
DeleteYou met Pete!! Woot! Wow! Awesome! I'm a huge fan of his and I would love to buy some of his art one day. You're one lucky lady.
ReplyDeleteIt was really truly an honor to talk to Pete and touch his art journals!
DeleteI love the flurry of excitement that you captured in your first two sketches. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThank you Arnoldo! They were fun to do.
DeleteWow. Your work is really growing. The details are I growing too. Love the house done in watercolor. A good buy. :)
