Animals, My First animal sketch of a horse with saddle, Carol Ann

This had to be the hardest sketch I did for my first full sized stand up horse. I am a little embarrassed to put it up.
Yet I have to learn to get over this. How else can I get confidence in myself to do it. Show and tell.
You all had same when you started. I may never attempt this horse to be perfection.
The subject is animals. So I keep trying different things. I tell you my wrist is sore today.
I admire you all to be where you are in your climbing from the bottom of the ladder to the top of the ladder.
I admire you all.

  1. Did you know there is no such thing as perfection? Only progress. It's a good horse. I have not attempted to draw one of those yet, but you have inspired me.

  2. You are really getting a lot of practice here and it is paying off!!! This came out nice. You should see some of my early attempts at horses. I do find them very difficult to draw. Keep at it...practice is what we all need.

  3. Horses are really hard! Good job! You've really got those different joints in the legs, and he's got personality, too!

  4. Good job on this horse. It is just as Penny, Joan and Margaret say, practice, We all need practise our skills and here we get it! And you are right, we shall show for others, what we have done. It is the best way to develop:)

  5. For your first horse drawing this is very good, horses are not the easiest creatures to draw. I always have difficulty with the legs, but you have done very well with them. You are brave and we all know how hard it is to keep going, but you are doing the right thing in sharing and in drawing so often. Keep it up.

  7. And I admire you Carol Ann, for of course you are right. Each and everyone of us has had a first horse or a first cat drawing or a first people drawing etc. etc. etc. I encourage you to keep drawing everything you see and posting them here. We are all about learning and practicing and getting better over time for that effort. I love watching my own progress and remember I have only been at it for three short years!

  8. You have done a great job for your first attempt. You have the proportions right and he definitely looks like a horse. They are very hard to draw. It is great that you posted him, it takes a lot of courage no matter where you feel you are on the ladder. It is sharing a part of yourself. Keep drawing, it just gets better. Have fun and I look forward to seeing more soon.
