Daily Life, "Mikiah Meditates", Lynn Cohen

My eldest grandson celebrated his 24th birthday last evening surrounded by family: two sets of grandparents, parents, and three siblings, plus sisters beau. I often draw him when we get together. I'd shown him some portraits I'd drawn recently of some of my Sketchbook Skoolmates we are doing there as a drawing challenge. He pulled out a photo of himself meditating and asked if I would draw him from that. Today I spent several hours drawing this first in ink, then coloring it with colored pencils.
As I keep saying drawing is how I  spend much of my days. I've drawn seven Klassmates portraits in the last few days. They'll show up on my blog later this week!

  1. This is a lovely painting of your grandson Lynn. You given this a classic look, I bet he is delighted with the result. Your sketches and drawings/paintings have developed so much since being in Sketchbook Skool, you show a greater confidence in them I'd say. Have you noticed a difference yourself?

  2. An excellent painting/portrait Lynn, you have captured the calmness of his meditative mood, in what looks like a peaceful wooded area. I have never tried meditating in a standing position, I was taught to sit up straight. Perhaps I should try it some time. I am sure he is pleased with the result.

  3. Wonderful job. This reminds me of an artist from the past. Just can't think of the name. He has to be happy with this. :))

  6. I think the peace you are showing on his face and in his body radiated right out at us. Nicely done!!! He must love this!

  7. A great portrait of your grandson, Lynn! The style here is very different than in your other portraits. perhaps depending on the motive, the meditation or perhaps your participating in the new course Sketchbook Skoolmates? I am guessing;)
