SUNDAY
Every day we play chess at breakfast, lunch and evening meal. We are not expert players, more sort of average to poor. We definitely try to win, but also love each other so we often say things like 'Are you sure you want to do that?' or 'Perhaps you'd like to re-think that move'.
It's a game after all, not war We like to enjoy the game and it often causes laughter, even when one of us has lost. And, of course, we have time to chat generally as we play.
Drawing this was a lot more difficult than playing a game of chess.
That's such a nice way to spend your meal times - I would always lose at that game though, mind you I usually lose at most games, lol.
ReplyDeleteLove your drawing :-)
Thanks Ann. We seem to have periods where one wins consistently for a bit and then the other one seems to try harder and wins for a bit.
ReplyDeleteVery nice drawing, and I love imagining you playing chess and chatting! What a great ritual.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret. I've never thought of it as a ritual, but you right. It's certainly an important part of our lives, not just for the love of the game but in hopes of keeping the old brain cells operational for a bit longer.
DeleteBut draw it well you did! I envy that your husband will play games with you. Mine hates both winning and losing so plays nothing like that. I have to wait for my brother to visit and then we play a card game called "Spite and Malice" where we get loud and laugh and sometimes even curse each other. Sounds vicious I know, but its a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteYes we also have our 'curses', fun ones. Mine is 'Blast you Red Baron' from the Biggles books I read when I was young. World War 1 airforce stories for boys but I loved them.
DeleteMy hubby and I used for years play scrabble it was fun and then we got really into it and every Sat we played at our house one time and then at friends place. So games we don't do to much now. He loves soccer and I like doing my art and photography. When summer stays. We walk to-gether three or four times a week. . Like your sketch Jez.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol. We also play a version of scrabble, an app called Wordfeud, on our phones every day, sitting side by side on the sofa and I play it on the phone with my daughter too. Great fun.
DeleteOh, I love the chess pieces on the board. They are not easy to draw, but you did a great job! That sounds like a fun family time.
ReplyDeletethis is too cool jez. i really like the warning part lol.. part of the trick and fun ;) lovely sketch!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Makes me want to drag one of ours out and play. Or maybe just sketch it. :) I know how to play but I'm pretty bad at it.
