I don't have a cat, but my friends do. I did this painting of my friend Henry's cat Jake after he passed away a few months ago. While he was alive, Jake would never pose for me, no matter how many times I tried to draw him. Even if he was sleeping, if I started to draw him he would invariably wake up, look at me with disdain, and move off. So for this portrait I had to use a photograph. I thought it was funny that a cat as vain as Jake (yes, he was lovably spoiled) refused to pose for a portrait!

He looks so sweet curled up on the green pillow! Love your story. Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear of Henry's loss of Jake.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lynn! Yes I imagine you know how hard it is :(
DeleteA lovely sketch of Jake, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Melisa!
DeleteI like this very gentle portrait of the cat, he looks so relaxed and the marmalade colour goes so well with the green cushion. I can feel the way he is sinking into the comfort of the cushion. I expect Henry loves this.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jez. I hope so :)
DeleteYour drawing of Jake is so sweeet, Margaret. Your style is so gentle. The cats will perhaps not be drawn. They move away.
