Animals, Jake, by Margaret Coote

I don't have a cat, but my friends do. I did this painting of my friend Henry's cat Jake after he passed away a few months ago. While he was alive, Jake would never pose for me, no matter how many times I tried to draw him. Even if he was sleeping, if I started to draw him he would invariably wake up, look at me with disdain, and move off. So for this portrait I had to use a photograph. I thought it was funny that a cat as vain as Jake (yes, he was lovably spoiled) refused to pose for a portrait!

  1. He looks so sweet curled up on the green pillow! Love your story. Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear of Henry's loss of Jake.

  3. I like this very gentle portrait of the cat, he looks so relaxed and the marmalade colour goes so well with the green cushion. I can feel the way he is sinking into the comfort of the cushion. I expect Henry loves this.

  4. Your drawing of Jake is so sweeet, Margaret. Your style is so gentle. The cats will perhaps not be drawn. They move away.
