I sketched this duck seriously, but when I had finished it the unusually shaped feathers at the top of his head made me think of a cap, and before I knew it I had turned him into a cartoon duck. Before I 'cartoonised' him, I had taken a shorthand note on his colouring, so that I could add the correct watercolour at home, but that never happened.
I love drawing birds, but they do move about so much. Often we will visit about 4.30 pm when they begin to settle down for the evening as this one has. It makes sketching so much easier.
Jez, lovely drawings, I like the second one especially. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sirkka. I have to say I enjoyed drawing the second one very much - I go to the Centre to draw seriously and so that is the kind of thing I like to do when I am there.
DeleteI like your duck with his little cap, and I love the lines and motions of your second duck! You've really captured how they tuck their heads down into their little bodies.
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret, I appreciate your thoughtful words.
DeleteI just went to your blog, but couldn't comment as you are on Google+, but will look forward to your posts on PPP&P
oh dear! Why does Google + not let you comment? Thank you for visiting!!
DeleteJez I love the duck you turned into a cartoon one. Great idea.
ReplyDeleteWow you draw live animals, birds. That is talent.
Thank you Carol, you are kind to make such a nice comment, and it helps to raise my morale, so it is much appreciated.
DeleteI love the idea of your drawing live birds and ducks. This weekend I will join a friend not yet met in person from Sketchbook Skool and we will go to SF to sit indoors and draw animals at the Academy of Sciences there. I am quite excited about going and drawing there.
