Vacations & Holidays. Glider flying, Sirkka Jalava

One summer we spent some weeks at the airfield supporting our son, who learned glider flying! Guess what I was feeling! Yes I was proud of him of course, but also worried as every mother should have been but everything was ok and he got his license when he got the age, he filled 16 or 17 years a month later and had then the right age and the glider license. In the picture you can see the glider on the ground and an airplane flying above. it is the plane which towed the glider up in the air and then released the glider and went away for landing. The glider must clear the flight self and go down for landing self when it was that time.

  2. Lovely sketch with the soft contrast between the gentle blue of the sky and red of the airfield. Interesting the way you have included both the towing plane and the glider in the painting. No wonder you were proud of your son achieving success at such a young age.

    1. Thank you Jez. I wanted to spare paper and space and draw bothe planes in the same picture. In fact, the tower plane could tow an other glider while this glider was not used. Yes, it was good time.

  3. Love your painting, it has really set the scene to your story about your son. How proud of him you must be Sirkka. Years ago we knew somebody who taught glider flying.

    1. Fran, thank you. Yes, without engine and the sound, but also without the help from the engine. They must find the lifting air flows. It is like sailing without an engine.
