Humans and their Activities, "Jane/Lynn's Plant" by Lynn Cohen
This human being, ME, is, as you know is busy with Sketchbook Skool. We are on our forth week and forth teacher. Jane La Fazio is a wonderful artist. She does drawings, watercolor, art quilts, Mixed Media, carved art stamps, her list goes on and on. Today I found myself feeling resistant to the lesson and at the same time went into my garden finding the exact plant she had drawn as my subject.
I then gathered up the same tools she used and laid it all out on my page just as she had done in her example. At the end I am not sure if this looks like a Jane La Fazio copy or a Lynn Cohen original.
Maybe a mix of both. I will try to see it as a learning experience and keep my inner rebellious child at bay.
The tools used included:
Farber-Castell PITT artist pen, size XF
TomBow black brush pen
Windsor & Newton watercolors
Pencil and eraser, yes she asked us to draw in pencil first and later erase those marks, not my usual cup of tea but I did it.

Lynn, you drew and painted a beautiful plant, and I recognize its spirit from the "Gardens and Parks" drawings you did earlier, which I love too! So I would say it's definitely a Lynn original. I know that feeling of resistance in a class…I always have to tell myself, "just try it, you can hate it but who knows you might discover something…" and sometimes I do!
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret, You are so right about "trying it" as I know I am learning new things, stretching myself, just resisting moving out of my comfort zone, but am trying really, really hard not to be too resistant and rebellious.
DeleteOh you did well and yes it is you a Lynn original. You tired. You accomplished it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol. I guess I needed these pats on the back today!
DeleteGood..it's a Lynn original. You don't want to be a carbon copy of someone else,. You can learn techniques but should never lose your own uniqueness.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cris, I hope I am doing that in these classes.
DeleteGreat page! I didn't see hers, so I'll go with this is a Lynn original. I'm sure you have made your own mark on it to make it you!
ReplyDeleteWell, her plant (same plant) was in an old boot! Mine in an old container. The style of frame is hers, the tools used were the ones she suggested we use and since I had them all I did. What I learned was I COULD draw with pencil first, just not so sure I like doing it... LOL
DeleteDefinitely a Lynn original, every line and touch of colour says it is 'you'. Yes, it's good to force ourselves to try new styles, even a little touch of it will creep in. My youngest granddaughter (almost 22) appreciates the fact that I'm always trying different things and gave me this little quotation - "Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there", Will Rogers.
ReplyDeleteLove your humour and it's so good to still be a rebellious child in our later years.
What a great quote!
