This pencil holder is something I bought as a souvenir in Japan many years ago and is covered with washi (Japanese paper). This was so hard to draw -- I wanted to quit but I made myself keep going. Sorry not to do the whole thing but I felt like I was murdering the washi's design. I couldn't do justice to the lovely pattern of berries and leaves in soft blues and mauves, with gold lines outlining the shapes.
The contents are mostly my Pitt artist pens plus some 2B pencils and my trick pen, the Pilot Frixion ballpoint which is erasable (!). I keep little odds and ends in the drawer at the bottom like refill cartridges for fountain pens, rollerblade hex key, tiny screwdrivers for eyeglasses and so on. I had stored away this pencil holder but recently rediscovered it and brought it out of retirement -- it is a great design!

What a cool pen holder! I like the unfinished look of this. Very unique! And you did a great job on the floral design. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful box for your pens! You did enough of that beautiful design for us to see what it looks like. Lovely sketch!!
ReplyDeleteElaine, you did a wonderful version of this box and its pens. It looks like a great holder for special things :)
ReplyDeleteElaine this is really cool and i also like the unfinished look. so many pens you have!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sketch and I love the unfinished look too!
ReplyDeleteActually Elaine the painting looks really good like this, it leaves something for the imagination. Love that you added your pen colours too.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! The box, the system, and the drawing/painting. I am daunted by things of such complexity. This is lovely.
ReplyDeleteoh the unfinished work is rather lovely.
ReplyDeleteLovely painting, and what an attractive box to keep your pens in. The washi pattern is so detailed and so well done, just a joy to have on your desk I should think. I think there is something very attractive about an incomplete painting, and I admire your skills with this.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for your kind comments -- lovely to have such positive feedback.
