Art Supplies, My Palette by Joan Tavolott

I didn't want to neglect the other theme we are including since I love art supplies so much.
This is my palette that I keep in my backpack for plein air painting when I want a larger palette.
It does have a lot of colors but can be held in your hand using the finger hole. You can see I wanted another color and didn't have the space so I taped it to the inside top of the palette.

  1. Very nice! A beautiful palette, beautifully painted! Very clever to tape the extra paint to the lid!

    1. Thanks, Lisa. Once I realized a half pan would fit and the lid would still close I was happy.

  2. Colorful and convenient. And nicely drawn and painted Joan. I am always curious about specific tools. What brand paints might these be then?

    1. Thanks! I usually use Windsor Newton paints, but Daniel Smith sneaks in sometimes.

  4. Looks like a really useful palette Joan, with good mixing space and a great range of colours, especially those reds. It's funny, there is always one colour missing that one wants, and taping it on the palette is a good idea. I love the loose direct painting.

    1. Jez, thanks! I added yellow ochre when I started doing portraits. It mixes well with the reds and it is great for all the beach scenes I always do.

  6. I love the idea of adding the extra colour with tape Joan. Thanks for the tip. I keep striving for the PERFECT PALETTE...of course, this will never happen with me...I keep changing them about ALL THE TIME, lol :-)

  7. Thanks, Johanna! I see the bunny too...chocolate, my favorite kind. LOL

Ann, thank you. It is impossible to have the perfect palette. I admire the people that go out and do whole paintings with 2 or 3 colors.

  8. This is just beautiful, Joan :) Do you buy the little half pans separately and arrange them in the palette yourself?
