"Third Day at the Park" Gardens & Parks Lynn Cohen

On Monday I hightailed it down to the park again. It was WINDY out. There was no way I was going to be able to paint there, but I did draw with some difficulty,  hair blowing in my eyes. But there were moms and toddlers galore! I was in seventh heaven quickly drawing little tykes as they quickly moved from one spot to the next. The ones on the teeter-totter were the easiest as they at least were sitting still for  a few minutes with the mom holding the baby. I went home to paint it afterwards.

There was a whole gaggle of young moms with little kids, babies, and one obviously very pregnant mom to be. It reminded me of 8-9 years ago, when our twin grandchildren were babies and I went to their home every Friday to enjoy them with their nanny. She and I would bundle them up and pack a lunch and take them to a park. All the nannies met up at the same park. I watched ours crawl around and then take their first steps there. It all stopped when they turned two and went to a private nursery school. But boy, that was an awesome two years. They are going to be ten this September.

  2. What a lovely colourful painting Lynn, even though you didn't add the paint en plein air, you really captured the fun of the place. Just for a bit of random info the word tyke originates = a person from York (a town in the North East of England). And we call teeter-totter's = Seesaw's....I know I'm full of useless information, lol :-)

    1. I love learning the difference in ENGLISH words Ann. So no, not useless at all. It will help me understand better when I land there in the not too distant future! ;-) So keep them coming!!! Glad you enjoyed my painting too.

  4. You have to be fast, fast, fast, to sketch kiddies! I am not fast enough. I'm glad you are, though, because the playground seems so much more alive with the kids included.

  5. It's true! you have to be fast to capture these little tykes in movement and you've done that. Lots of movement going on and great job!

  7. You are very skilled to be able to capture all the movement of the children in the park. It looks like a quiet corner for the younger children. I think memories of being in the park with our children and grandchildren are among the strongest, and we only have to see a scene like this for the memories to come flooding back.
