I tried a new local cafe this morning, Valentina Cafe. They have a lovely white fence with sunflowers growing against it and I intended to draw the whole row, but ran out of patience I must admit -- hence the white space at the left side of the page. Maybe I will go back sometime and finish it! I also drew a colourful van parked across the road, which I'm throwing in here for good measure... the colours were so cheerful and great to look at, especially as today it's overcast and rainy.

My lavender pic took up the same amount of room leaving that much white space, I just misjudged! I actually like your page. It's like a journal page where you could write your story! The van is cool too. I can see the sunflowers and fence as a greeting card! Love your style!
ReplyDeleteLove your drawings...with the fence it actually looks good leaving the white space, leaves the viewer to imagine the rest of it :-)
ReplyDeleteYour two sketchbook pages are lovely, and I love the placement. You have a delicate touch,.
ReplyDeleteLovely, Elaine! I love your graceful lines and colors. What kind of pen are you using?
ReplyDeleteand how was the new cafe? :)
DeleteMargaret, I have been buying pens constantly trying to find one I like -- it's crazy! But I think I am finally happy with this one. It's a Uni-ball (0.7mm) which is waterproof. I think I prefer ball style pens because I don't have to worry about the tip crushing or drying out. And this one in particular rolls and flows nicely.
DeleteThe cafe was very pleasant to be in, but the truth is the food was not stunning, although I was very happy to find some Colombian food on the menu (because I used to live in Arizona and enjoyed much South American food there). I would go back more because the staff and surroundings were nice, rather than the very simple cafe food.
There is a real assurance and flow to your lines here, I can tell you like the pen!
DeleteSo, that's the first time I ever saw anyone paint sunflowers without the blooms, and they are still attractive. Love the fence and the funky van.
ReplyDeleteVery nice composition and drawing. Your touches with the color is just right. Good job.
ReplyDeleteThere is something so relaxing about flowers against a fence. It just takes me back to a simpler time of picket fences in lovely neighborhoods. You did a super job on the sunflowers and fence as well as that cute truck!!!
