Gardens and Parks, Camellia House Part II, by Joan Tavolott

When I was sketching at the Planting Fields Arboretum yesterday there were quite a few different colors of camellias. I had to try painting a white one...there are so many colors in the shadows. They are harder to do than the pink ones. lol

  1. Painting white flowers is like painting snow. Lots of blues and shadows. You did a great job, Joan.

  7. I really have to study flowers when I paint them. I get lost in the petals. lol Thanks, Penny, Fran, Cris, Carol, Lynn, Sirkka, and Sandy!

  8. Two more beautiful camellias, and the white one particularly is stunning, with the blue shadows it looks three-dimensional, and the coronet of golden stamens jumps out of the picture almost. White flowers are so difficult to draw, but the framing of glossy leaves is perfect.
In spite of the cold, cold, cold and rain that we have here, when we drove out this morning I saw a large camellia in a garden full of perfect deep red camellias. I love them, and I love your painting.

    1. Jez, thanks so much for your kind words. It is still too cold her for flowers to be outside, but luckily the arboretum had a wonderful spot indoors.

  9. I love your flowers and you are tempting me to go out and buy a Camelia tree/plant. As I said before we had 3 and somehow we lost them, not sure why. Your painting is awesome. Thanks.
