What to Draw, Close to Home Lynn Cohen

My personal goal is to draw "something" every day. Keep practicing in hopes of getting better at it over time.
So I sat at my desk this morning wondering what to draw today, when I recalled another artist of some renown saying "Just draw what you see." I'm not sure he meant my desk especially or just anything I happen to be looking at, to just draw THAT, let my eyes wander over the shapes and let my pen follow along. That is how I attempt to draw.

So today I stayed at my desk, and looking at the clutter on it while I started drawing the large shapes on the left, my Cap Tel phone (phone with caption abilities for the deaf and hard of hearing of which I am one of the latter); the manila folder behind the phone, the speaker, the black box I think is a router; a little pink notebook gift from a dear friend, my address book, part of my computer screen that fit on the paper that was left.

And then I filled in with color.
You might notice that our blog, Paper, Paint, Pencils & Pens is up on the screen now that the colors highlight that!

So I didn't have to go far to find something to draw. I could swivel my chair and draw things in my family room, or my kitchen behind me  (but I'll hold off there as that is our next theme in another ten days). You get the idea. There is always "something" to draw!

  4. You did right when you sketched you desk and things on it! We can be " homeblind" so it is good to remind of everything.

    1. Agreed, it's what we see that can be drawn, everything is fair game.
