Close to home, Out our back windows, by Cris Marlow

e
These little vignettes are what I see out our back windows.
A heard of sheep are grazing on the mound behind our house which I love to see and makes if feel so pastorial.
The bottom little sketch is something that happened a few days ago when we heard this crashing out back while letting out the Girls.  I looked out to see a young black tail doe trapped in our back field.
for some reason it hopped in and couldn't hop out.  It was HOPPING all over and bashing into the fences and sheds in a blind panic. So we went out to open a gate and almost got trampled. It did finally manage to hop to the end of our field and hop up and over the back fence and was gone in a flash on up the rock road. I tried getting photos of it but it was way to fast and at one point heading towards me which was a bit scary for picture taking.  So this is my depiction from my head and a tiny bit of a blurred photo. and yes our fields are this green right now.

  1. Very peaceful scene with the sheep. I like the misty trees in the background.
Glad you didn't get run over by that deer! :)

    1. Thanks Lisa. I had to wave my arms and it changed course to bang into the fence. I think it wanted out the closed gate behind me into our inner back yard which I didn't want it in. I didn't realize it would aim for me from across the big field. yikes.

  2. I'm sure I've said this before! It's never a dull moment at your place, therefore, always an opportunity for something to draw! And well you do that, thanks for this addition to your art journal here, Cris!

  3. What a lovely pastoral scene. We don't have many sheep here. It's too hot for them, I think.

  4. Thanks melisa. Not sure where you live but it can get very hot in summer here. They do need to be sheered by then.

  5. How lovely to have nature come to you Cris, well, so long as it can hop away again.

  6. I love the sketch of the sheep. It reminds me of when we were in Ireland in April. Good sketch of the poor deer that was trapped inside. They can panic and nearly hurt themselves. What a wonderful view to see out your window.

  9. You have so lovely view out of your windows to your sheep. I have here wild deers too, but no fences so they come in to the garden for a visit and summertime they eat up all the tulips and much else too.. Good, that your deer came out again.

  10. Thanks Sirkka. :) Usually the deer can come and go with the fences so it was a surprise to see this one not able to get out so it must have been a very young one. Also the neighbors yard sits up more because our neighbors before had horses and made a riding ring and put in more dirt, so it could hop over to our side easier then getting back over there, so it panicked. Out back it was lower.
