Close to Home - Benneton Lake - By Kim Lawbaugh

I take an intermediate watercolor class through our local Parks & Recreation and here is a painting we did of nearby Benneton Lake (Fall) from a photo our instructor took.  I love the Benneton Lake Area...  It's maintained by the Army Corp of Engineers.  The lake is a reservoir to store excess water from Mill Creek in order to control flooding.  And then it becomes extra water to be used by the local wheat farmers.  Miles of trails abound in this area and it is surrounded by Wheat Fields and the Blue Mountains lie to the east.  This is just a few miles from my house and I love to walk and ride my bike there.

  1. I love how well you got the reflections in the water and water to look like water! Wow! You've impressed me with this painting Kim. I bet your teacher was equally impressed!

  2. Thanks Lynn, Joyce is a really good teacher. I've been working with her for a few years now. I always found watercolor difficult and frustrating to work with until I took her beginner class.

  6. Beautiful area and nicely painted!!! If I rode a bike (which I don't) it would probably be a place I would love to roam around. I'll have to settle for walking. Very nice!!
