Monument, Woolacombe, Ann Hyde
This monument commemorates the American troops that were stationed in Woolacombe during WW2, who trained for the D-Day landings.

ReplyDeleteYes you did Lynn. It's down along the esplanade, near to where we sat and sketched that day (when the surfer got into difficulties).

ReplyDeleteHi Joan, the monument is about 6 ft. tall. The two stones have a small gap between them and they are made from the same stone that is found locally.

ReplyDeleteThanks Sirkka, yes it does make us stop and think. Apparently the beach here is very similar to Normandy, which made it ideal for training back in the day.
