Daily Life, Inktense, Jez Eden

Inktense Pencils - Jez
TUESDAY

Yesterday we had a joiner in to do a job for us.  Where he needed to work and spread his tools out around him was in the one place in the flat that made it difficult to move from one room to another, and he often wanted to ask questions.  That made it difficult to get 'in the zone' for sketching, and he was moving around too much to draw him.  But he did a good job, so it was worth it.

My solution was to sort out my varied boxes and tins of Inktense pencils, my tin of 24, plus extra colours bought from time to time and some from gifts.  I never knew where to find everything I wanted.  When I had finished I found I had 45 different colours and ten 'doubles'.  As you can see, I mistakenly sketched 12 pen spaces instead of 10, lack of concentration

Inktense are not like the usual watercolour pencils.  When water is added they become ink in vibrant colours, and even if you painted watercolour over them it would not disturb the original ink painting.
The outliner is a graphite pencil that does not react to water.

I would like to give them to artists who have not yet tried these lovely pencils, so if you would like them I would be really happy, rather than see them lie unused and unwanted.  They are artist pencils, and even if children like to draw with them, all artists should at least try them out.

Just say you'd like to have one of the two five-pencil sets in a comment below and we'll sort out a way for me to send them.  Lynn would give you my email address, or vice-versa if you wish.  Please make me happy.  Don't worry about the fact that the postage is a cost  - it's better than the government getting it one day as death duties.

  1. How generous of you! I won't take you up on it because I already have a tin of 12 and a tin of 24. I agree that everyone should try them. They are very unique and quite different from watercolor pencils.

    1. Great Linda, I'm so glad. I'll email my address to you and we'll go from there. I forgot to mention that one or two have been used. Yes, and 'play with' is just the right approach. Lots of tips and videos on you tube etc under Derwent Inktense Pencils.

  5. Jez, I love your drawing and I love your idea of sharing art supplies this way. I am going to look through my things and see if there's anything not being used, and keep this as an idea in the future. I love our community here and not only is it a good chance for these pencils to have a new life with someone using them :) it's also a way for us to connect!

  6. Well Jez it seems your beautiful pencils have found homes! Wonderful. I look forward to the art they create with them. And I will send them each your email address if that is what you want.
You did a wonderful job drawing and coloring them with the very pencils. And you are right, the colors are quite intense! Sweet gifting!

  7. Great illo, good use of your time. And what a generous offer. I like the idea of sharing excess supplies. Like most arty people I tend to buy supplies just to try them and don't always like them. Better to share than throw out for sure.

  8. I like how you made good use of your time while the workman was there. I have a set of 12 Inktense pencils and love them. I use them all the time, so I'm sure whoever you send them to will enjoy them too. It is a good idea to share supplies that you don't need. Good thinking!
