Animals, Memory of my cat, Sirkka Jalava

Since a couple of years I am living without any cat. But I had two cats in 13 years. We had good time together. Then the first one became ill and pasted by, the the other after a year or so. I remember them and I have tried to do a picture of one of them.  I think this painting is more a symbol than a portrait, more a dear memory than a portrait. I loved these two cats so much and thaught afterwards that I never take a cat again.  And I still dont have a new cat.

  1. You paint much better from memory than I could do. I have felt the same way when I've lost my dogs but I just can't seem to go very many years without one.

  2. Sirkka, you did a very nice job on this. Cats always have the most interesting eyes. Sorry you lost both of them, but I'm sure you enjoyed them a great deal while they were with you.

  4. Sirkka, your cat has such a great unique personality. I love hearing about your beloved cats, too. I don't have any cats but I have loved other people's cats. They are very special, every single one different.

  5. What a wonderful painting of your dear cat. I've no doubt you have captured his personality in this picture! Every time one of our cats have died, we are on number five in our 36 years together, husband and I, I swear that's it, no more attachments. That said, about ten years ago, said husband and I were on a weekend holiday to the ocean town we love and on Saturday morning the local animal shelter had cages of cats and dogs out on a big lawn for people to see. We went to look at them with no other intention but to LOOK. Well we both saw HENRY in his cage separately from the other. Back on the walking path I said "Did you notice that LARGE TABBY CAT?" "Yes, he was Huge, and we both agreed very handsome." But, we were far from home and on vacation. We decided to sleep on it and come back the next day and see if he was still there. Sunday we went back. Husband had to park the car, I got out and ran to the cages. Henry was NOT in the cage he'd been in the day before. I was crest fallen. (sad). Then I saw him in another cage! I went straight to the woman in charge and said I WANT THAT CAT! I was sitting down filling out adoption papers before my husband got there. We agreed to take Henry home.
We have never regretted getting our fifth cat! It's expensive to board him when we go away, but it's worth it. He's so good to come home to. And he's fun to draw!

    1. Lynn, it is a bit of our own death when we loose our cats. What a story about Henry! I am glad you shared it. Now I understand more how you must feel about Henry. It was love with first sight.Henry was very lucky too, when you took him over. And now you can draw him, true!! Thank you for the story!

  6. You are very good at painting animals, and it is clear that you have painted from the heart. It is the memory of the cat that you have painted and it is a lovely cat and painting.
