Last year my plein air group painted at the Andrews Family Farm Stand in Wading River, NY several times. We were mostly painting the farmstand and its bounty, but you went around back there was a fenced area with a chicken coop and a few chickes. This one posed for a photo for me and I turned it into a little sketch. I used my water-soluble graphite pencil and my Inktense pencils for this.

Such a lovely chicken! I'd love to have chickens but I know it is a lot of work. Did you know chickens are the latest IT pet??? These are pretty fancy: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/25/silkie-chicken_n_5200292.html Thanks for commenting on my artwork. Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteYour chicken is so lovely, Joan! I love chickens and would have some myself. It would need rather much investments first.
ReplyDeletehe's a star now because we all get to see him in a lovely painted form. and what a cool place for plein air painting!
ReplyDeleteThis chicken looks as though it is just about to jump out of the picture. Love it.
ReplyDeleteHubby and I raised chickens many moons ago. So this locks like one of ours. I liked the chickens as we had fresh eggs. Only the fox and the skunks were bothersome gritters back than. Mrs Skunk somehow got in and took an egg. Then she or he would roll the egg one by one across the drive way under the fence to an old barn she had occupied. So you don' t shush a skunk away. You stay your distance.
ReplyDeleteI like you picture well done.
Awesome chicken, cluck cluck.:) Love it! Nice job Joan.:)
ReplyDeleteMany thanks everyone!!! I've never raised chicken, but we did stay at a friend's ranch in Texas who raised them. I don't know if I really liked the sound of the rooster in the morning. The first time it was cute, and then it was annoying. lol The fresh eggs would probably make it worth it.
ReplyDeleteShe's a fine model, posing there in the doorway!
ReplyDeleteCris is really going to relate to this drawing Joan. I like it too. Cute fully chicken you have here!
ReplyDeleteLovely sketch of that plump chicken, and so kind of her to stand and pose for you.
