Animals, The Brown Bear, Sirkka Jalava

What to do, if you would meet an animal like this on your promenade in the forrest? Here we can be disposed to it while  picking blueberries for example. In my childhood it was not possible, there were no bears, it was said and I were never afraid to meet a bear or wolf in the forrest. Now it is different, because of the authorities promote saving wild life, even carnivore. The brown bear you can meet in the whole of the land. (I have never seen it in wild life, I must say to be honest, but I am living on an island now, where there are no bears.)
I would be scared. I dont go in to a forrest any more, never.
It is called King of the forrest. The people has always  almost adored it, always respected it, and I know why. It can weigh 300 kg, it is strong, quick, can climb up a tree. At least fell it. Nowadays they are ca 1600 bears in Finland I read somewhere. The people all over the world who will see the wild brown bear,  are travelling to east Finland to see these big kings of the forrists. Before most of them could be seen in Alaska instead.

  1. Bonjour,

    Gros bisous ♡

  3. We have the black ones like these. My neighbor starts getting them and then we get them over to out place.

They look nice on a picture as you did or a the zoo the polar bears but you cannot trust them. They are wild creatures that roam in the wild.

  5. Oh, Sirkka, love your brown bear and your commentary on it too. Where I grew up in California we were said to have brown bears, but I never saw one in real life either. When I went hiking alone I would sing, really loudly, to signal to any animals that I was there (mountain lions, bears). I heard that if they know you are coming they will stay out of your way. I hoped that was true! I love the posture of your kind-looking bear, and the texture of the pine trees behind him.

    1. That is surely a good idea to sing loudly, or make loudly noices, that they can go out of the way. And they surely do it, I think it is true. Thank you very much Margaret!

  6. One of my facebook groups has a challenge photo this month to draw an ACEO bear. The photo is of the bear sleeping. I hope I can do it as well as you did. Great Big Teddy Bear, but I know I would not want to meet him face to face.

  7. Sirkka, you brown bear came out so well!!! Bravo! I love the shading on him and he LOOKS heavy and dangerous.

My brother had gone on a vacation with his son who was about 18 at the time. He left him sleeping at their condo in Wyoming and went out early in the am to take photos. He was snapping away taking photos near his car and had just started up a path. When he turned a corner he saw a big brown bear on the same path he was on. Luckily the bear didn't show much interest in him. He ran back to the car and took some photos of the bear from there. Imagine if he had a run in with him.

    1. Joan, I am so glad you like it! Thanks for it. Oh, what a story with your brother with his son! The bear was not hungry at that time, luckily! I can imagine how he felt. I try to imagine what I should do in the same situation, I think I should get a heart attack and not could run at all. Therefore I dont want to meet him at all!!

  9. Beautiful bear painting Sirkka, so realistic. He looks very friendly but I think I would be very nervous if he were wandering around in our local area. What a wonderful natural paradise you live in.

    1. Thank you Jez! The bear is respect giving, where he then lives. I think they are wonderful animals, but I don´t want to be too near by them. Yes, there is a certain diversity around.

  11. Your bear painting is quite lovely! However, he does not look the least bit menacing. Such a ruse. We have seen brown and black bears in the wild in Yellowstone National Park. I stay in the car. My husband goes out to shoot photos. Scares me to death!
